Players Losing Position Eligibility
As I start to get my database in order for next season, here’s a list of players who have lost position eligibility in 20-game leagues. I’m listing the position they lost and then where they remain eligible in parenthesis.
Alfredo Amezaga - 2B (OF)
Marlon Anderson - 2B (OF)
Rich Aurilia - SS (3B, 1B)
Jeff Baker - OF (1B)
Casey Blake - OF (3B)
Geoff Blum - SS (2B)
Aaron Boone - 3B (1B)
Billy Butler - OF (DH)
Asdrubal Cabrera - SS (2B)
Alberto Callaspo - SS (3B)
Jorge Cantu - 2B (1B)
Jeff Clement - C (DH)
Jeff Conine - OF (1B)

Aubrey Huff - 3B (1B)
Maicer Izturis - 3B (2B)

Ryan Klesko - OF (1B)
Greg Norton - 1B, OF (DH)
Eric Patterson - 2B (OF)
Mike Piazza - C (DH)
Ryan Raburn - 2B (OF)
Freddy Sanchez - SS, 3B (2B)
Gary Sheffield - OF (DH)
Sammy Sosa - OF (DH)
Mark Teahen - 3B (OF)
Scott Thorman - OF (1B)
B.J. Upton - 3B (2B, OF)
Jose Vidro - 2B (DH)
Todd Walker - 2B (1B)
Rondell White - OF (DH)
Ty Wigginton - 2B (3B)
Brandon Wood - SS (3B)
Hillenbrand would remain 3B eligible if signs with an NL team.
Wigginton should remain 2B eligible in mixed leagues, but he’ll probably be disqualified in most NL-only leagues after not seeing any time there following his trade to Houston.
The big story here is the large number of players set to be limited to the DH spot initially:
David Ortiz
Travis Hafner
Jim Thome
Gary Sheffield
Frank Thomas
Billy Butler
Jason Giambi
Mike Piazza
Jose Vidro
Sammy Sosa
Shea Hillenbrand
Mike Sweeney
Greg Norton
Rondell White
Jeff Clement
Shelley Duncan
Garrett Jones
Those playing in AL-only leagues with strict eligibility rules might be able to take advantage of the situation and snag Giambi or Piazza dirt cheap.

I can't wait for the World Series! This year it's going to be a fun one to watch. I can already see the major bombs that are going to be hit in Colorado's thin, cold air!
