I was rather saddened to learn that Theo Fleury was not successful in his comeback bid with the Flames. I may be in the minority, but I still think Theo has something to give. If the Flames don’t think they need him, surely there is another team that could use him on their second or third lines.
He may have been a little slower than he once was, and perhaps a little more docile, but Fleury can still skate, and even a chilled Fleury is more animated than most current NHLers.
I was putting together some cheat sheets for a number of on-line drafts and was shocked at the lack of scoring depth on some teams. At $500,000, Fleury could certainly help a team such as the Avalanche, a squad that will likely have no more than four players who will register in excess of 40 points.
Sure we all wanted Fleury to play in Calgary this season and retire a Flame. But should he hang up his skates once and for all just because the Flames don’t need him? I say not. Skate on Theo. Find another job and show the world that it is never too late to be redeemed.
