Detroit-Pittsburgh Game 2 - Live Update
Game 2 is back in Detroit. Pavel Datsyuk and Kris Draper will not play once again.
Chris Osgood and Marc-Andre Fleury are the starting goaltenders.
It's the first back-to-back games in the Stanley Cup final since 1955 and Detroit has not lost a Game 2 in the final since 1954.
Back after the first.
Here are the lineups for both teams.
PITTSBURGH
Kunitz-Crosby-Guerin
Fedotenko-Malkin-Talbot
Cooke-Staal-Kennedy
Dupuis-Adams-Satan
Gonchar-Orpik
Gill-Scuderi
Eaton-Letang
DETROIT
Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary
Holmstrom-Filppula-Hossa
Hudler-Helm-Samuelsson
Leino-Abdelkader-Maltby
Lidstrom-Rafalski
Stuart-Kronwall
Ericsson-Lebda
The Penguins are going with 12 forwards and six defenseman as they took Philippe Boucher out of the lineup from yesterday and added Pascal Dupuis.
The Red Wings switched up things a bit from Saturday's starting lineup as Cleary moved from the second line to the first, Hudler moved down from the first line to the third and Holmstrom moved from the third line to the second.
PITTSBURGH 1 DETROIT 0 after the first period
Malkin was credited with the only goal of the first when Brad Stuart knocked the puck into his own net.
Pittsburgh outshot Detroit 12-7.
The Penguins were 9 of 16 in the faceoff draw, after a horrendous 16 of 55 in last night's game.
The pace of the game is a lot slower than yesterday.
Brad Stuart led both teams in TOI with 8:57 and Niklas Kronwall was second with 8:49. Lidstrom only played 6:34.
Back after two.
DETROIT 2 PITTSBURGH 1 after 2
Jonathan Ericsson tied the game at one with a shot from the point that beat Fleury. Darren Helm screened him perfectly in allowing Ericsson's shot to go in.
Malkin was stopped again on a glorious opportunity just past the three minute mark of the second, just like in Game 1.
Filppula put the Red Wings ahead with a nice backhander into the top corner of the net.
Detroit outshot Pittsburgh 16 to 9 in the second and are up 23 to 21 overall.
Pittsburgh is 21 of 39 on the draw. Staal is only 3 of 11 but Crosby is 9 of 13 after a 6 for 20 outing last night.
Four Red Wings have played over 15 minutes (Rafalski, Kronwall, Stuart and Zetterberg) while no Penguin has hit the 14 minute mark.
Surprisingly, Brooks Orpik leads all players in shots on goal with four.
Back after the game.
FINAL
DETROIT 3 PITTSBURGH 1
Same as yesterday. Detroit is now up 2-0.
The Penguins outshot the Red Wings 12-3 in the third and outshot them 33-26 in the game.
Chris Osgood has been outstanding in the playoffs after a less than stellar regular season. ( I know how bad his regular season was as I had him in one of my pools. He cost me first place with his save percentage.) He has allowed only two goals in two games and the goal that beat him tonight was put into the net by his own defenseman.
Just like Game 1, Justin Abdelkader scored the only goal of the third, this one was a bad goal allowed by Fleury who just missed catching the floating shot from 35 feet out and just watched it go into the top corner.
Pittsburgh was 27 of 51 in the faceoff circle. Staal ended the night 3 of 15 and is 9 of 34 in the series.
Game 3 is in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.
