A mess in Ottawa
Well the Ottawa Senators finally did something about their awful start, but they fired the wrong person. They have now fired two coaches in less than a year, but the person responsible for the demise of the franchise, Bryan Murray, is still calling the shots as their General Manager.
Murray put this year's squad in peril by getting rid of, or not re-signing any of their three rushing defensemen. Murray has let go Joe Corvo, Wade Redden and Andrej Meszaros, leaving the Senators with a top four blueline of Filip Kuba, Chris Phillips, Anton Volchenkov and Jason Smith. The quartet does not exactly strike fear into any opponent.
Murray has also failed to address the dire goaltending problems that face the Senators. Whereas Brian Elliott may eventually be the answe, the franchise has gone from a Stanley Cup final berth just 20 months ago, to having the third worst record in the NHL at this time.
Don't blame Craig Hartsburg who was fired on Monday, or John Paddock, who was let go last season. The blame should be directed at Bryan Murray. He should have been the one to go.
