Hurtin' Oilers

Where has the Oilers’ high-octane offense gone? You’d think with the price of crude oil plummeting, it would be cheaper to fuel the likes of Erik Cole, Sam Gagner, Shawn Horcoff and Andrew Cogliano. Yet the combined point total of the flailing four is 19, eight points less than the surprising Alexander Semin has generated by himself. Cole seems lost no matter which wing he plays, with only five points in 15 games. Gagner, who has registered only two assists in 14 contests, can’t seem to recapture the magic he possessed in his rookie year. Nor can Cogliano, who only has five points to his name in 2008-09. Horcoff, who, along with Ales Hemsky was expected to lead the Oiler attack, has registered only seven points in 15 games. Unless someone steps up and starts to help out Hemsky and power-play quarterbacks Sheldon Souray and Lubomir Visnovsky soon, it won’t matter much which of the team’s three goalies starts in net.
