Wednesday Thoughts
Just some random thoughts on a Wednesday night.
I'm watching the first period of the Phoenix-Chicago game and I can' t believe the amount of young talent on both teams. Phoenix has Mueller, Hanzal, Turris and Boedker, their past four first round picks (2005-2008) in the lineup, in addition to Tihkonov who was selected late in the first round in 2008. The hierarchy in Phoenix was quite smart in getting veterans Kurt Sauer and David Hale to go alongside Jovanovski, Morris and Michalek, giving the Coyotes a veteran presence with all their young forwards. Of course it doesn't hurt that Olli Jokinen and Shane Doan are on the top line, allowing the youngsters to play with less pressure.
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that the Coyotes will make the playoffs this season.
The Blackhawks aren't too shabby either with Kane, Toews, Skille, Keith and Seabrook. Toews and Kane will lead them for years as the duo are 21 and 20 years of age respectively.
I was also quite impressed tonight with the play of Nikolai Khabibulin in the Chicago net in the first stanza. If he continues to shine, he will replace Cristobal Huet as the number one netminder in the Windy City.
Watched a bit of the Dallas game to see the debut of Fabian Brunnstrom. He was playing with Brad Richards and Sean Avery. Good move putting him with Avery as the superpest will not allow anyone to take any liberties with the Swedish rookie.
As everyone, we at Rotoworld were saddened by the sudden death of Ranger prospect Alexei Cherepanov while playing in the KHL. Our sincere condolences to his family.
