Injuries Creat Opportunities
Every NHL injury creates an opportunity. This week no less than four impact fantasy players went down with injuries.
Blues' defenseman Erik Johnson is likely out for the season after ripping up his knee fooling around on the golf course. Look for Lee Stempniak and Alex Pietrangelo to take advantage of the opening on the point of the St. Louis power play.
Sergei Zubov will miss a few weeks of play due to a hip injury. Philippe Boucher will get to run the Stars' power play with help from Trevor Daley and Matt Niskanen.
Sergei Gonchar seriously dislocated his shoulder and his season is in doubt. The benefactor will be Kris Letang, who with the injury to Ryan Whitney, will get prime-time power-play minutes.
Justin Williams, who can't stay healthy for more than five minutes, will miss the entire season. I'm betting Patrick Eaves somehow inherits Williams' role and ice time.
The trick is figuring out whose fantasy value gets a spike when opportunity knocks. Those who do it well, win fantasy pools.
