Dallas@Detroit Game 5 (In Game Coverage)
Great first period as the Stars and Detroit are tied at one.
Marty Turco and Chris Osgood have been fabulous in net, each holding his team in the game.
Defenseman Trevor Daley opened the scoring as he took a nice little drop pass from Brad Richards and shot from the slot to be Osgood.
Jiri Hudler tied the game at the 15:30 mark of the period as he took a gorgeous pass from Niklas Kronwall and banged in his own rebound past Turco.
Turco has been handlling the puck like a third defenseman and would have had an assist on Daley's goal if the NHL handed out three assists. He also set up the Stars early in the game as he passed the puck to Hagman at center ice, setting up a two-on-one, forcing Osgood to make a great save off Hagman.
Didn't think that Stuart deserved the first penalty of the game as he got the puck with his stick before tripping the player. Fortunately for the Red Wings, they killed off the penalty.
Detroit outshot Dallas 14-10 in the first.
Hudler led all shooters with three shots on goal.
It was a very exciting period and there was a lot of chippiness in the game. Should be a great game the rest of the way.
Back after the second period.
Dallas 2 Detroit 1 after two periods.
Joel Lundqvist scored the only goal of the second period as he grabbed a deflected pass from Marty Turco that went off a Detroit player and sped down the ice, turning it into a two-on-one. He made a nice move and beat Chris Osgood high on his stick side.
Turco now has been instrumental in both Dallas goals. He is doing all he can to break his winless streak in Detroit.
He came into the game with a 0-9-2 record in the Motor City.
Detroit is now outshooting the Stars 27-16, so the shots favored Detroit 11-6 in the middle stanza.
Turco has been outstanding.
Detroit is showing its superiority on the draw as they are 23-15 after two. They beat Dallas 11 to 8 in the first in faceoffs.
Nicklas Lidstrom leads the game with five shots on net.
Back after the third.
Well, Marty Turco sure stole the game for the Dallas Stars.
Turco stopped 38 of 39 shots and was influential in both Dallas goals, setting up the winner and as mentioned earlier, he would have had the third assist, if three assists were awarded, on the opening Dallas goal by Trevor Daley.
Turco finally burst his curse in Detroit as he won his first game in 12 starts.
There was no scoring in the final stanza so the Stars win 2-1 and are trailing the series 3-2 with Game 6 on Monday in Dallas.
Dallas only managed 21 shots on Osgood and lost 41 of 61 on the faceoff.
Dallas, as well as Philadelphia trailed their series at one point 3-0. Only the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs and the 1975 New York Islanders have come back from 3-0 deficits to win the series. Therefore only two teams have lost best-of-seven series after leading 3-0. The two teams:
1942 - Detroit Red Wings
1975 - Pittsburgh Penguins
Hmmm.
Game 6 is in Dallas on Monday, with the Stars full of confidence.
