Kolb Salad

Donovan McNabb trade rumors are sprouting up like corn on the Kolb. Tuesday brought whispers of a trade to Buffalo for draft picks. By Wednesday afternoon, the rumblings were growing louder, with unverified radio reports sending McNabb to St. Louis for the No. 33 overall pick. Additionally, multiple sources tell Yahoo's Charles Robinson that the Bills and Raiders have already been sniffing around on McNabb.

Update: Beat writer Jeff McLane confirms that the Eagles have an offer on the table to send McNabb to the Rams in exchange for the No. 33 overall pick and FS O.J. Atogwe. According to McLane's sources, McNabb is willing to go St. Louis with a contract extension, but he wouldn't make the same concession for Buffalo or Oakland. McLane believes a trade could happen "quickly," though Profootballtalk reports there is "zero truth" to any rumors of the Rams' interest.

To clarify, the rumor mill appears to be spinning in response to Andy Reid's subtle but telling acknowledgment that the Eagles are entertaining offers for all three of their quarterbacks. The Philadelphia Inquirer's report that the asking price has been lowered to a "fair" price of "a second-round pick or a combination of high picks" has added ample fertilizer. After further reports that Reid hasn't spoken to McNabb in months, it seems that this week is the tipping point for No. 5's quixotic 11-year Philly career. Perhaps moreso than any other quarterback we've witnessed, McNabb has been tilting at windmills since a 29-24 defeat to what was believed to be a juggernaut "Greatest Show on Turf" Rams team in 2001.

With McNabb, Kolb, and Michael Vick all signed for just one more season, the franchise is at a crossroads. Reid and McNabb have stuck by each other through thick and thin for over a decade, but the tide is turning as we approach the NFL Draft next month. McNabb's consistency has slipped noticeably as he enters his age-34 season while Kolb flashed enough talent in two games last season to force the front office's hand in a crucial offseason.

What to make of Kolb's fantasy prospects? His value is set to skyrocket in Dynasty leagues. Reid has always guided a fantasy friendly offense at quarterback, and the skill-position cupboard is stacked with dynamic young playmakers in DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek and, perhaps, LeSean McCoy.

For 2010 value alone, I'd reel in expectations somewhat. While Kolb has an accuracy edge on the current edition of McNabb, he doesn't possess the same athleticism or improvisational ability; nor has he demonstrated a similar mastery of the offense. Yes, his numbers against the Saints and Chiefs in Weeks 2 and 3 were impressive last season. Keep in mind, though, the majority of his 391-yard, 2-touchdown performance came in garbage time against the Saints in Week 2, and his 327-yard, 2-touchdown outing in Week 3 came courtesy of a talent-challenged Chiefs defense that surrendered a 10/250/2 line to Miles Austin two weeks later.

To recap: Go and get Kolb in Dynasty leagues immediately if not sooner, but I'd be awfully hesitant to reach for him in a re-draft format this summer.

Kolb should be untouchable in any dynasty league that has a sliver of knowledgeable football fans. The time to get Kolb was early last year.

In re-draft formats, you can survive being reactive, but in dynasty formats, only the proactive survive.

If you don't have Kolb now, you won't get him.

Nothing has happened yet. Still 75% that he takes the opening snap for the Eagles next year.

Agreed. Kolb was an obvious pickup a long time ago. If not now, then soon enough he will get his shot.

I've held on to Kolb since taking him in my dynasty league when he was a rookie, despite getting advised to drop him. On the other hand, I'm also holding on to Brady Quinn and Alex Smith as I needed one of them to pan out behind Cutler.

Traded for Steve Smith of the Giants in exchange for Jamaal Charles and the 10th pick in my dynasty draft but also pleaded for Kolb knowing this day would came soon.Looks like it may pay off

Can someone tell me why everybody is so high on Kolb. He whooped on the Saints terrible defense, when the game was already over, and then he whooped the KC defense. Even Brady Quinn could whoop the KC defense. Also with Desean Jackson anyone can throw for 300 yds in garbage time or against KC.

So why the hype?
