Like a Boss
The Giants won’t admit it, but they miss Plaxico Burress. Yes, they miss the guy that shot himself. Steve Smith has stepped up nicely as a possession guy, Hakeem Nicks is a major prospect and Mario Manningham is better than most people expected. But right now, none of them are great in the red zone.
Enter Kevin Boss. At 6’6/253, the tight end is the Giants’ best option – and they know it. His four touchdowns in the last three games are not a fluke. They are part of a concerted effort to improve in the “green zone,” as coach Tom Coughlin calls it.
“We had an idea that this would be one way to help ourselves in the (red) zone," Coughlin said of getting Boss more involved in the offense. "It proved true today. Kevin made some big plays."
Boss used the bye week to get over his ankle injury which bothered him for the majority of the first nine games. Will it be enough for Boss to be a TE1 down the stretch? That’s questionable. But for desperate owners in touchdown heavy leagues, Boss is worth a look.
