Week 6 Target Report Highlights

It’s weird when guys have career years in their 30s. It just doesn’t feel right, especially with skill position players.
That’s what makes Hines Ward’s year so interesting. He’s off to the best season of his career, with 599 receiving yards through six games. The thing is, this actually makes sense. Ward’s speed was never his best asset anyway and the Steelers are throwing more than any time in his career.
Ward is seventh in the league in targets with 52. And he’s in his 12th season at age 33.
Anyway, on to this week’s highlights. Here are four pass-catching situations that caught our eye in Week 6:
BILLS
Lee Evans: 9
Terrell Owens: 8
Marshawn Lynch: 3
Corey McIntyre: 3
Shawn Nelson: 2
Josh Reed: 1
Derek Fine: 1
With Darrelle Revis draped all over Owens, Evans was the play here. Owens ended up with three catches for 13 yards while Evans went for 68 yards and a touchdown. It’s something to keep an eye on when the Bills face “shutdown” corners like Revis. (Insert joke here about everyone shutting down Owens).
PACKERS
Donald Driver: 8
Greg Jennings: 8
Jermichael Finley: 5
Donald Lee: 4
Ryan Grant: 4
James Jones: 3
John Kuhn: 1
Spencer Havner: 1
Brett Swain: 1
Brandon Jackson: 1
The interesting news here is that Jordy Nelson is out indefinitely with a knee problem. He had been sharing time with James Jones at the No. 3 WR spot. James will have a chance to flash his considerable talent as the full-time No. 3 guy now, but he’s going to be spotty. Still, in this offense he’s probably worth a flier in deeper leagues.
GIANTS
Mario Manningham: 9
Hakeem Nicks: 8
Domenik Hixon: 7
Steve Smith: 6
Kevin Boss: 2
Brandon Jacobs: 2
Ahmad Bradshaw: 1
Travis Beckum: 1
These numbers are obviously inflated thanks to the whopping the Saints put on the Giants last week, but Nicks’ number obviously raises some eyebrows. Manningham left the game a little early with a minor back injury, but it’s clear that these two are going to eat into other’s snaps in close games.
VIKINGS
Sidney Rice: 7
Adrian Peterson: 6
Bernard Berrian: 5
Percy Harvin: 4
Visanthe Shiancoe: 4
Jim Kleinsasser: 1
Chester Taylor: 1
Naufahu Tahi: 1
Adrian Peterson said he worked on his receiving this summer and it’s starting to show. The Vikings even ran a couple screen plays for him. He had just 10 targets all season coming into this game, so maintaining 6-7 targets per game seems unlikely. But it would be huge for his PPR value if it happens.
TARGET REPORT QUICK HITTERS:
Ray Rice and Brian Westbrook each had 11 targets in Week 6 to lead all running backs. Seems fitting, they’re so similar. … Tony Scheffler has just 19 targets all season, 6 of which came on Monday night. With the way he abused the Chargers safeties, he has to see more looks going forward, especially considering he’s caught 16 of the 19 passes that have come his way. … Lance Moore declared himself back on the fantasy scene with six catches on seven targets.
