Week 4 Target Report Highlights

Week 4 saw some rookies surprisingly bubble to the top of the target report. Mohamed Massaquoi saw 13 passes come his way and he’s going to be a hot pickup this week. Kenny Britt caught seven balls on 11 targets, while Louis Murphy caught just three of his 10 targets (not going to name names, but the person at fault there rhymes with BaDarcus Tussel). Even tight end Brandon Pettigrew got going with 10 targets of his own.

Here are five pass-catching situations that caught our eye in Week 4:

For a complete target report, plus all the tools you need for Week 5, check out the Season Pass.

BROWNS
Mohamed Massaquoi: 13
Steve Heiden:8
Mike Furrey: 7
Jerome Harrison: 7
Braylon Edwards: 5
Robert Royal: 4
Josh Cribbs: 2
Chris Jennings: 1

What a wacky, wild report this is. Edwards was double teamed all day, caught zero balls, then beat up LeBron’s boy later that night. Meanwhile, Massaquoi took advantage of single coverage and had a monster game. Mike Furrey got seven targets and found time to play safety. Chris Jennings comes from the CFL to the practice squad and then finds himself making plays in a tight game. Only in Cleveland.

SAINTS
Marques Colston: 6
Jeremy Shockey: 5
Devery Henderson: 5
Pierre Thomas: 4
Reggie Bush: 4
Robert Meachem: 3
Heath Evans: 2
David Thomas: 1
Lance Moore: 1

This report shows why it’s tough for Colston or Bush to have those huge games. Drew Brees really spreads it around, with Colston, Shockey, Henderson and Bush all seeing over 20 targets on the season but none have more than 30. It was a little surprising that Bush didn’t have more targets last week against the Jets’ attacking defense.

PACKERS
Jermichael Finley: 7
Greg Jennings: 6
Donald Driver: 6
Donald Lee: 5
Ryan Grant: 4
Jordy Nelson: 4
DeShawn Wynn: 3
James Jones: 2

I talked about Finley’s breakout game in Tuesday’s Dose. The hype machine is back on, but be wary of those five targets Donald Lee got. Greg Jennings has just five catches in his last three games on 14 targets. Expect him to get better as the Packers’ protection gets better.

BENGALS
Chad Ochocinco: 11
Brian Leonard: 7
Laveranues Coles: 6
Daniel Coats: 6
Andre Caldwell: 4
John Paul Foschi: 3
Chris Henry: 3
Cedric Benson: 3

Any ideas that this offense would return to it’s high flying form of a couple years ago have been grounded. The Bengals are ranked 23rd in the league in passing offense. Ochocinco caught just three of the 11 passes that came his way, something that never would have happened back in the day. Granted, two of those catches went for touchdowns.

BRONCOS
Eddie Royal: 6
Brandon Marshall: 6
Correll Buckhalter: 5
Jabar Gaffney: 4
Tony Scheffler: 3
Daniel Graham: 3
Knowshon Moreno: 2

Despite being on top of this report, Royal caught just two balls. He needs to continue to ride your bench. Brandon Marshall and Josh McDaniels shared a hug at a press conference after the game Sunday. Strangely, that makes me feel better about Marshall’s prospects going forward. With Correll Buckhalter likely out this week, expect Moreno’s targets to go up.

TARGET REPORT QUICK HITTERS:
Mike Sims-Walker led the Jags in targets for the second straight week. He’s averaging 10 targets per game over the last three weeks. … Steve Smith and Steve Smith lead the league in percentage of their team’s passes thrown their way through four weeks. … Jason Witten has caught a remarkable 23 of 27 passes thrown to him. … Ted Ginn had just three targets in Week 4 and was rotated out often, telling us that Tony Sparano is ready to concede that Ginn is nowhere near a No. 1 receiver. … Austin Collie had seven targets this week while Pierre Garcon had four.

Any thoughts on the Chicago situation? Knox got lots of targets again, leads all WR on team now... don't see much talk about him though from Rotoworld...

why is this blog so dead?! it used to have 3-5 posts a day in-season last year. im disappointed. now i have to take my fantasy browsing elsewhere

Echoing Scott C... as much as I like The Tiffany And Gregg Show, I actually prefer articles over videos.

On topic... I really liked what I saw from Massaquoi last week, but I'm concerned how he'll handle DB1 coverage. Happy to see Furrey getting time on both offense and defense, although The Furrey Effect is usually a sign that the team has serious DB issues.

Scott C - why are you complaining about something you get for FREE? Rotoworld is truly top-notch - I simply cannot believe the quality you get for absolutely nothing.

were u on this site last year? if u think these posts are good, u would have been really happy then. i knock rotoworld because they show lacked effort this year compared to years past. everyone whos been a fan of this site for years would second that im sure.

tru scott. its not even close.

Thank you! I would now go on this blog every day!
Thank you
