Looking at cut day from a fantasy perspective
Hundreds of football players will have their dreams stomped on and spit out today. The vast majority of them will mean nothing in the fantasy world. I'll be updating the ones that do here today. Keep checking back as I'll be updating this page as fast as I can:
- Bills cut RB Dominic Rhodes: Looks like Xavier Omon will be Fred Jackson's backup for the first three games while Marshawn Lynch is suspended.
- Redskins name Shaun Suisham their kicker, cut Dave Rayner: If your league gives out negative points for missed field goals, you don't want Suisham. And if Jason Campbell doesn't take a big step forward, you don't want any Redskins' kicker.
- Ravens name Steven Hauschka their kicker, cut Graham Gano: The Ravens don't exactly seem happy with Hauschka as they've sniffed around with Matt Stover. I'm going in a different direction for my kicker.
- Broncos cut RB Darius Walker: It's not a lock, but it looks like LaMont Jordan will be in the stable of backs along with Knowshon, Peyton Hillis and Correll Buckhalter.
- Saints cut QB Joey Harrington: Pretty embarrassing for the former No. 3 overall pick. Mark Brunell will step in if anything happens to Drew Brees this season.
- Bengals keep both Brian Leonard and DeDe Dorsey: If you watch "Hard Knocks," you know this was one of the more interesting battles. If anything should happen to Cedric Benson, Bernard Scott will have plenty of company asking for carries.
- Seahawks will not cut Deion Branch: Branch was one of the big names that had a chance to get the axe, but it looks like he's safe for now. If anything happens to T.J. Housh or Nate Burleson, Branch could be a waiver add.
- Bucs cut K Matt Bryant: Mike Nugent is the Bucs kicker this season. I'd be surprised if Tampa's offense was good enough to make Nugent worth a pickup.
- Raiders cut QB Jeff Garcia: So much for him taking over the job from JaMarcus Russell this season.
- Seahawks cut Brandon Coutu, meaning Olindo Mare is their kicker: Here's another kicking situation I'm not touching. Considering I didn't draft a kicker in any of my leagues, I hope there's someone out there I can pick up and be happy with. John Carney comes to mind initially.
