SOFA Experts League Live Draft Blog
I have the distinguished honor of representing Rotoworld in the SOFA Experts League 10 team draft tonight at 7 p.m.
Come on in and chat, post some comments, rip me for bad picks. I don't think I'll be answering questions during the draft, I'll just be posting the picks as fast as I can and trying not to ruin Rotoworld's dominant reputation. We just wanted everyone to get a look at the draft in real time and not talk about Brett Favre (hopefully) for a couple hours.
The league is Point Per Reception standard scoring. It will be played out. Here's the draft order:
1. Rotoworld.com
2. KFFL.com
3. FantasyFootball.com
4. Rotoexperts.com
5. Fantasy Insights
6. Fantasy Guru
7. Footballguys.com
8. Sports Weekly
9. Sports Grumblings
10. The Huddle
Here's the roster setup:
QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, Flex, K, D, 8 Bench
I'll quickly say that I've really struggled with who to take first in this format. Obviously Peterson is the No. 1 pick in standard scoring. But in PPR, Evan and Chris said they would take Adrian Peterson while Gregg said he'd go with Maurice Jones-Drew. It's worth noting that Peterson finished seventh among RBs in this format last season. I'm still weighing my options, although you clearly can't go wrong with either guy.
OK so the site the draft was on crashed right after we made the first pick of the fifth round. It's looking like we're going to continue on Thursday night. But for now, here are the picks so far:

i always felt that, with a first round first pick, you go for the player most likely to lead you to more victories based on his own merits (in comparison to the other top ranked players). even though AP might not be ranked top 5 in the format, i feel he can be the decisive factor in at least 2 games and maybe more. forte cant do that. i dont see turner doing that this year with his schedule. LT cant do that anymore. id love slaton to do it and deangelo, with his high YPC even vs tough defenses and stewarts nagging toe, has a chance.
it looks like MDJ is capable. but AP has, can, and will. And with a 2000 yrd season possible, i feel he's a better bet to net you wins on his back. i say this per experience, as last year i lost twice to (what was virtually) AP and a bunch of squibs.

I like your picks so far. I totally agree with the AP pick. I'm shocked MJD dropped to 4 in a PPR league. I think you got good value on Colston, Brown and Gonzalez. I'm not in love with the Royal pick, I see Denver's air attack as likely to stumble hard with Orton at the helm, even in a relatively weak division. But you got him at a good location, so not bad... I think I might have gone with Ochocinco instead.
Overall, I like your draft better than most so far. I'd be looking for flyer RB depth in your next two picks, you can handcuff Peterson but I don't trust Ricky Williams as a handcuff to Brown.

Does anyone see B.Marshall pulling a R.Moss Oakland version and giving up on the team if he stays in Denver?

I like the Royal pick. Marshall is a big question mark, and if Orton is throwing picks, Denver may be playing from behind quite a bit. That sets up some potential garbage time yardage, receptions and scores for Royal.
