Will Brett Favre help Adrian Peterson?

While we all enjoy the fallout over Artie Lange's show-stealing performance on Joe Buck Live, let's turn our attention back to Lange's opening act: Brett Favre. (I’d love to write 1,000 words on Lange, but I’m almost as ill-suited to do so as Joe Buck is to host a comedy-tinged program.)
I blogged on NBCSports.com last night summarizing the Favre appearance. The short version: he’s all but a Viking now.
Buck's line of questioning about how Favre would enjoy playing with Adrian Peterson got me thinking: Will Favre help Peterson's fantasy value?
In theory, yes. Favre is roughly a league average quarterback at this point, but that's a big upgrade from Tarvaris Jackson and Gus Frerotte from last season. In reality, though, we must examine whether Favre is that much better than Sage Rosenfels. I doubt he is.
Rosenfels, like Favre, can move the chains. There are questions about the consistency of each player's deep ball, and both players will turn the ball over too much.
The main advantage Favre has over Rosenfels, from Peterson's perspective, is that he'll guarantee that Tarvaris Jackson is on the bench. That is no small advantage, and it promises an upgrade at quarterback for Peterson from 2008. And it's pretty exciting to think of what Adrian Peterson could do with any more advantages.

Enoch, that same site you quote for your argument has Adrian Peterson listed as the 17th and 22nd ranked RB with their "innovative" DYAR & DVOA statistics. Quite laughable. This is coming from someone who doesn't believe that Favre will be good for the Vikes. I don't think that I will be using Football Outsiders for any reliable info. BTW Matt Forte was ranked 38th in both categories. I'm sure that no other teams would want him as a starter??!!

Peterson would help Favre or at least make him look better!

Well, Thomas Jones stinks, and he had a great year because of Favre. Peterson will tear it up this year.

Rex,
FO's stuff is based on what leads to real football success, not fantasy success. Think "first downs" instead of "8 yard draws on 3rd & 10." Peterson is downgraded because 1) he's too "boom-bust," which tends to lead to drives stalling after a couple of the "bust" runs put them in 3rd & long (all else being equal, runners who get consistently decent gains help their team more than runners who mix in an occasional 50-yard TD with a whole bunch of running into the line and falling down), and 2) nine fumbles is shockingly high for a RB.
Forte's 3.9 ypc last year was not good. However, he would be ranked higher if his receiving stats (further down the page) were factored in.

Everyone talks about Thomas Jones, but just 2 years ago Favre turned a nobody in Ryan Grant into an Adrian Peterson clone. Then he left and Grant comes crashing down to earth.
Sure there were other factors, but there were other factors with the Jets that led to their success on the ground too.

Enough of this whole Favre fiasco. I'm sick of it!. The last four years, will he retire or won't he. And whether it was the Packers, Jets, or now Vikings, all the the teams are in disillusion and chaotic until he makes a decision. I say screw it and go with Jackson and Peterson will still post good numbers. I'd like to see owners start thinking or the progressive future of their football teams, rather than a possible good QB for maybe a full year. Favre is slowly digging his retirement grave, and no team is worth suffering vs. his potential at his age and his injuries.
