Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 5
Thomas G. did not mess around submitting his mock choice. It was in almost immediately after Seattle picked at No. 4. Thomas "Don't call me Stylez" G's best George Kokonis impression:
With the 5th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Aaron Maybin of Penn State.
As a team rebuilding and with many holes, the Browns can go any number of ways with this pick. However, the most pressing need may be for a sustained pass rush, something missing from the organization for years. The Browns managed a pathetic 17 sacks last year, with their Nose Tackle leading them, something that should never happen.
Aaron Maybin amassed 12 sacks last year, and will be able to complement Kamerion Wimbley and keep the double teams off of him. He sports the quickest first step of any defensive end in the draft, and plays with an incredible motor all game. The Browns have a few players on defense known for taking plays off, and they need a kid to come in and show what it means to compete every down. Brian Orakpo may be more athletic overall, but Maybin possesses better football skills, and may be easier to convert into an outside linebacker.

A great pick. This will allow the browns to begin to have a pretty decent front seven with shaun rogers, jackson, wimbley, and maybin.

Solid player, but a reach for value. Hes a player that will be alot better in year 2 than year 1. At this point in the draft the players should step in day one and be strong starters.
Although the argument could be made that the Browns arent expected to do much this year so it might be worth it to grab a player that will be a stud in year 2 and beyond.

GAH! He's perfect for Buffalo because of his year 2 potential. Now I have to rewrite my pick...

Maybe the Browns should just take Courtney Brown.

i think the browns finally made a good pick. well, check that braylon and thomas were each good first rounders, but u get my drift. mayblin should be okay. i really want to see which way they go in real life. this is a huge pick for them and that organization.

Maybin will likely slide out of the top 20. There's no way he's the 5th pick. He will need a couple of years experience to transition to 3-4 LB. For now he's just a 3rd down pass rusher.

Huge reach taking Maybin here. I don't see it. If the Browns are going to draft on DL or LB, the pick here is Orakpo. I also don't expect the draft to play out this way at all and the option of taking Crabtree should still be there as well for them.
