Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 17

It's safe to say Radio City would be rocking if this scenario takes place next weekend.

Our long national nightmare is over, the Jets will take Stafford. My original intent was to deal this pick for Edwards or Boldin, and had worked out a mock trade for Edwards. However, Jets have some need at QB and no one wants to see Kiper's head explode. (Edtior's Note: Yes, we do.) I am reluctant to make this pick because I think Stafford will stink, that said at some point you gamble on talent and pick 17 seems like a good place.

I see going with Clemens year one hoping he could pull a Brees/Anderson and have a big year and give Stafford time to learn the offense. I think having been a Packers fan, Rodgers benefited a lot taking a couple years to learn, I would hope Stafford could be given the same chance to try and beat Lewin. Two years ago I had a pick in the second round and no one had taken Larry Johnson, I took him because even though I hated him he should have been taken earlier, hopefully this works out better. Strong arm, low completion percentage, ugh...

Sounds reasonable to me. I'm not sure Stafford is worth the risk for top 5 or top 10 money, but for pick #17 money he has a lot of upside.

Agreed. Especially for a team with a QB hole to fill like the Jets.

As much as i would love for Stafford to fall to the Jets...but thats unreal...even if he falls out of the top 5...49ers, broncos, redskins, texans would all jump if he was still on the board with their pick

Why would the texans jump on him? They have a solid offense already. They need to shore up on D.

First off, I'm with Gregg, I WOULD like to see Kiper's head explode. Anyone with me in thinking that the head may go, but the hair would remain intact?
Anyway, I also agree on all counts with the pick and the logic behind itand the theory that Stafford is a prime bust candidate, especially in NY, especially if he's forced to start before he solves the accuracy issue. But at pick 17, it's worth a chance.
