Pancake Blocks Mock Pick: No. 13
Ryan Johnson delivers the Redskins' Pancake Blocks Mock Pick at No. 13 overall.
The Redskins need to definitely draft in the trenches. While they did acquire Albert Haynesworth, their starting defensive ends' age adds up to 70! However, I see 13 a little too early for Robert Ayers, Tyson Jackson, or Connor Barwin. Also, Haynesworth can make anybody look good. With that being said, the fact that Matthew Stafford is still here at pick 13 does make him tempting, but i think Jason Campbell is fine at quarterback for now, and if you can't keep the quarterback upright then it doesn't matter how good he is.
That being said with the 13th overall pick in the Rotoworld Pancake Blocks draft the Washington Redskins select Andre Smith, Left Tackle out of the University of Alabama.
We all know Smith has had just about the worst offseason a potential number one overall draft pick can have, but the talent is still there. You don't get first team all freshman SEC, and First team all SEC as a sophomore and junior, and not be damn good at what you do. And Dan Synder doesn't mind throwing the dice on a player (DeAngelo Hall). The Redskins need help at o-line. perticuarly on the right side, which is where a lot of people project Smith to best fit in. And if he improves he could be moved to the blindside after a few years.
This pick will improve the passing and the running game drastically, and hopefully it will keep Clinton Portis from taking so many hits in the backfield, which will keep him healthier longer into the season. This pick will greatly improve the Redskins' offense, and have them competing with the other high flying offenses in their league.

Silva or Rosenthal need to change the draft picture on the NFL page from Stafford to the Brady Quinn Sad Draft face.
The way this is going, Kirby is going to get Stafford at #17. As a Bills fan, I cannot support that outcome AT ALL.

predictable pick. good, i guess. it seems like smith has bust written all over him. at least if he goes to the redskins, no one will really care. stafford will continue to fall. but what will the saints do? go def like they should, or pick some silly player like wells or a receiver?

The redskins have been trying to replace Jansen for awhile so this pick makes sense...but they also have been shopping Jason Campbell and need a QB for the future since he has 1 year left on his deal. I think if it came down to it during the draft, Snyder would pick the bigger name and that's Stafford. Gotta get the fans excited over another 7-9 season somehow.

This would be an ideal scenario for the 'Skins. Smith could learn from the best O-line coach around in Joe Bugel and be mentored by fellow 'Bama alum Chris Samuels to be his eventual replacement at LT.
Stafford is just not a good fit for Zorn's WC Offense...won't happen. They'd look hard at Sanchez if he were there - but not Stafford.

There is no way the Skins pick up a QB. The whole Cutler and Sanchez ploy are exactly that "A Ploy." We want everybody in the NFL to believe that we are drafting QB so we can have ammo to trade back and acquire an extra pick in the mid to late second round.
However, I actually agree with Ryan here--we need to get young in the trenches and A Smith is perfect. In fact, the Skins need to be careful they don't miss out on 1 of the top 4 Offensive lineman. Take Smith at 13 because I feel we are looking great everywhere else except at LB which can be addressed with our 3rd round pick.
If we do get a team to trade back with us, I see us taking Robert Ayers from Tennessee (if he's still available).
What do you guys think?

i think snyder was really trying to get cutler and really has no faith in campbell. it may not be fair to campbell, that thats how it goes. hes far from a "franchise" quarterback at this point, they drafted a QB last year, i could absolutely see them going with the big named stafford here. lets pray it nerve happens cus i dont think stafford deserves to be stuck with snyder.

I think Andre Smith is a good value here and makes sense. From what I have heard Mr Snyder likes Sanchez but I haven't heard anything about Stafford (not that you should believe anything you hear at this time of the year anyways).
Try to remember that this is what the person picking would do if they were GM, not what we think the team will do. So the argument about Dan Snyder wanting to do X doesn't matter for the purposes of this mock draft. Also, I don't believe for a second that the Skins interest in Cutler was a ploy. Cutler had apparently thought that he was going to Washington and had told the media that when the Bears (presumably) came in with a better offer at the last minute (or McDaniels decided he liked Orton better than Campbell).
