Pancake Blocks Mock Pick: No. 13

Ryan Johnson delivers the Redskins' Pancake Blocks Mock Pick at No. 13 overall.

The Redskins need to definitely draft in the trenches. While they did acquire Albert Haynesworth, their starting defensive ends' age adds up to 70! However, I see 13 a little too early for Robert Ayers, Tyson Jackson, or Connor Barwin. Also, Haynesworth can make anybody look good. With that being said, the fact that Matthew Stafford is still here at pick 13 does make him tempting, but i think Jason Campbell is fine at quarterback for now, and if you can't keep the quarterback upright then it doesn't matter how good he is.

That being said with the 13th overall pick in the Rotoworld Pancake Blocks draft the Washington Redskins select Andre Smith, Left Tackle out of the University of Alabama.

We all know Smith has had just about the worst offseason a potential number one overall draft pick can have, but the talent is still there. You don't get first team all freshman SEC, and First team all SEC as a sophomore and junior, and not be damn good at what you do. And Dan Synder doesn't mind throwing the dice on a player (DeAngelo Hall). The Redskins need help at o-line. perticuarly on the right side, which is where a lot of people project Smith to best fit in. And if he improves he could be moved to the blindside after a few years.

Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 12

Michael R. offers thoughtful analysis on who the Broncos will select to salvage one of the worst offseasons we've seen from a team in a long, long time.

I've seen Tyson Jackson mentioned a lot as a possible selection at #12, but although Jackson has the ideal size to be a 3-4 end, his lack of production in college as well as bigger needs elsewhere should eliminate him from consideration in my opinion.

With Denver's #1 target BJ Raji off the board in this mock, Denver's 1st pick of the 1st round comes down to two choices. QB Mark Sanchez or LB Ray Maualuga.

Maualuga is arguably the top MLB prospect in this year's draft and could bring needed intensity to a defense that played without any of it last year. Maualuga would instantly team with DJ Williams to give Denver a solid pair of ILB's and fill a large hole in the defense.

Mark Sanchez seems to be the hot name of late and many draftniks have moved him ahead of Matthew Stafford on their rankings. Sanchez certainly seems to be a better fit for Josh McDaniels' offense than Stafford and reportedly has the "gym rat" personality that McDaniels covets in a QB.

Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 11

Mark P. delivers the pick Dick Jauron hopes will save his job at No. 11. Here's Mark:

When LT Jason Peters is traded, expect this pick to be an OT. Since that has not yet happened, the Bills select Brandon Pettigrew, TE Oklahoma State.

Realistically, with the top tackles and top defensive ends off the board and the top two QBs remaining, Buffalo would almost certainly trade out of this spot.

The Bills have an interesting situation, in that while their offense was the problem in most of their losses, their defense is in need of more help: Four defensive linemen (Aaron Schobel, Marcus Stroud, Chris Kelsay, Ryan Denney) are 30 or older. Kawika Mitchell is 30. Keith Ellison is more of a backup than starter. No one on the defense had more than four sacks last year. Terrence McGee is in the last year of his deal. The list goes on and on.

Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 10

Wes Hale caps off the top ten with the San Francisco 49ers' first-round pick.

Ultimately the 49ers have only 1 pick, yet many options.

Matthew Stafford and Mark Sanchez should not fall the way they have here and are not likely to be viable options. Plus taking a shot on another QB in the 1st 10 picks may not happen for a while in San Francisco.

They are likely to be fielding more phone calls than any other team in the 1st round as the Broncos, Redskins, and Jets all try move ahead of each other on the draft board to grab one of the falling QBs

The 49ers have not moved backwards in a draft in 5 years. They could use the opportunity to grab a different QB like a Josh Freeman, and fill in some of their other glaring holes on both sides of the ball.

Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 9

The commenter known simply as "Bob" offers up his take on who GM Ted Thompson will eyeball at No. 9 in the NFL Draft.

The Packers are the Minnesota Twins of the NFL - they develop talent. Ted Thompson has “prospects” at almost every position and the team has an attitude of competition making the team better.

The Pack seem to be losing one of the most underrated right tackles in the league in Mark Taucher; that glaring hole in the depth chart is why the Packers will look to the already famous Michael Oher, OT from Ole Miss.

Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 8

Matt G. steps in with the Jags' pick at No. 8.

Let me preface this by saying, there is no way the Jaguars will be picking at #8. With the way this draft has unfolded and with the likely way the actual draft will unfold one of the lower teams that is targeting either Matthew Stafford or Mark Sanchez will trade into this spot.

The Jags are hurting for a few things. WRs, Interior Linemen, a run stuffer, and a DB. An OT would be nice but not a must with the signing of Tra Thomas.

The two WR's that might have been justified going here are gone. The interior linemen can be had in the 2nd or 3rd round. Andre Smith would address a long term need at tackle but the guy is floppy, nutty and lazy. He isn't worth the risk of a top 10 contract.

Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 7

So far, the Mock Drafts haven't been afraid to think outside of the box. I like it, although Curry-to-Maybin one pick apart seems like a big drop. Oakland can go in a lot of directions with the seventh pick; Andrew W. has the honors.

When looking at the Oakland Raiders, they have a lot of glaring holes all over the team. With the top two tackles gone, it still wouldn't surprise me to see Al Davis pull the trigger on Andre Smith. He has character flaws, but that's never stopped Davis from picking up a player as talented as Smith before.

Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 6

The Bengals’ draft has historically been among the most entertaining in the league, often leaving pundits shaking their heads and flashing derisive chuckles around the set. With that in mind, Chris Wesseling is thankful that he has been charged with what the Bengals should do as opposed to what they would do (cough, Connor Barwin, cough).

With the sixth pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Bengals (should) select Brian Orakpo DE / Texas.

Conventional wisdom has the Bengals’ most glaring need as offensive tackle, which conveniently ignores the defense’s 30th place finish in sacks last season. As if that wasn’t enough, Michael Oher is a reach at No. 6 and Andre Smith’s trail of red flags leaves him as a less than appetizing candidate for a mega-contract.

Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 5

Thomas G. did not mess around submitting his mock choice. It was in almost immediately after Seattle picked at No. 4. Thomas "Don't call me Stylez" G's best George Kokonis impression:

With the 5th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Aaron Maybin of Penn State.

As a team rebuilding and with many holes, the Browns can go any number of ways with this pick. However, the most pressing need may be for a sustained pass rush, something missing from the organization for years. The Browns managed a pathetic 17 sacks last year, with their Nose Tackle leading them, something that should never happen.

Pancake Blocks Mock: Pick No. 4

With DJ Omaha M.I.A., LunaticFringe stepped up to make the Seahawks' Mock Pick. LunaticFringe (no known relation to the once-popular St. Lunatics) offers up his idea of who GM Tim Ruskell should draft to get the Jim Mora era started right.

The Seattle Seahawks, with the 4th pick in the 2009 Rotoworld Mock Draft, select Aaron Curry, linebacker from Wake Forest University.
