Skinny Posts: The Train tagged

Brandon Jacobs was given the franchise tag Friday, which is a great move for the Giants. Huge running back contracts are dicey. I love keeping a great player like Brandon Jacobs on a year-to-year basis. He was extra motivated to stay on the field last season, and he will be again. The move also gives them more time to reach a long-term deal, but clearly they aren't comfortable with Jacobs' demands thus far.

  • I hope GMs see Derrick Ward the same way Mike Lombardi does.

  • I'm starting a dynasty partial re-draft in my longtime league this week. I may ask you guys for your opinion on certain choices. Hopefully no one in my league reads this blog, but I'm thinking about Anthony Gonzalez, Roy Williams or Joe Flacco with my first pick. My QB need is much greater (I only have Trent Edwards), but it's a PPR league and WRs are gold. I know which way I'm leaning - how about you?

Don't draft Roy Williams. With or without T.O., Roy has been simply awful the last two years. He only had the one good year in Detroit, constantly runs the wrong route, and is a huge injury concern. Moreover, the TD ability he showed earlier in his career has completely vanished. He's not a good pickup in PPR leagues since his route-running and hands are below average, and his yards per catch is in serious decline. Obviously he was hurt by the midseason trade last year, but it is an open question whether he still possesses the athleticism of a 1st round pick. Clearly he was having foot and leg issues last year, but his explosion was completely gone. You'd be exhibiting a lot of faith to think all of those issues would be remedied by healing in the offseason and learning the offense (something he never took that seriously in Detroit).

Go with Gonzo. He projects to explode as a Wes Welker type in Indy next year (with more TDs).

I agree with the above, unless you have other options. In a comparison of FP/game (weeks 1-11) and (12-16), Flacco had a -7.1 differential for the late season. Teams figuring it out? More conservative offense in winter weather, whatever...Matt Ryan was +0.5 in my scoring system. I'd stay away from Joe.

Gonzo is a third year receiver, and while the offense may be tweaked with a new coach, it shouldn't change much.

I think WR value is to be had in Miami and maybe Seattle (Branch/Burleson), but figuring out what Sep/Oct will look like is beyond me at this point.

I like AGonz out of those three as well. One thing we know is that Peyton is going to throw a lot, and Harrison is gone. Other QBs will come along, and Balt looks like it's years away from a powerful offence. Roy could explode with TO gone, but I'm going to bet that it doesn't happen.
