My attention the last few days has been on the NFL Scouting Combine, but I’m not a college football guy. I need a few more days of studying to pretend I know what I’m talking about with these kids, and Mr. Silva has the event covered well in the news. Let’s see what’s gone on this weekend with the guys who are already pro.
The more we hear, the more it sounds like Torry Holt will just get out-right released by the Rams. They could delay the decision until mid-March, but it could be tough for the Rams to get any trade compensation for him. Teams may as well wait for the Rams to kill his contract first.
Jim Mora has had enough of the Michael Vick Experience, thank you very much.
Why is releasing Edgerrin James such a hard decision for the Cardinals? They can replace him in the draft at a fraction of the price, and then some.
Jason Brown wants Alan Faneca money. I suspect he’ll get close to it. Who would most GMs rather have? Brown is 26 and plays like a Pro Bowler. Faneca is 32 and plays like a former Pro Bowler. The economy will hurt middle tier free agents, but not the top players. Brown may be the top offensive lineman available. $15-20 million guaranteed makes sense for him.
Marvin Lewis still thinks the Bengals can afford T.J. Houshamandzadeh, but I doubt it. I’m guessing even an aging receiver like T.J. Houshmandzadeh will get $12-15 million guaranteed.
It looks like it’s only a matter of time before Maurice Jones-Drew gets a deal comparable to Steven Jackson or Marion Barber. The huge money is a great sign that Mojo’s role will increase accordingly.
Marvel Smith is as good as gone from Pittsburgh. His back is a huge risk, but he could be an interesting buy-low for some team with starting upside.
The Falcons and Lawyer Milloy have “mutually decided to part ways,” which is a nice way of saying that Atlanta doesn’t want him. I remember Milloy losing his coverage responsibilities in a 81-yard touchdown from Brett Favre to Antonio Freeman in Super Bowl XXXI. He still struggles in pass defense, and I suspect his rock solid 13-year career is about over.
The latest in as the Anquan turns: there is no deadline on Arizona for making an offer to him. Boldin seems willing to stay now, so we suspect he will.
Jim Leonhard good as gone to the Jets? And rumors have the Jets and Dolphins be battling for Bart Scott. The Jets appear like they will be more active than expected in free agency, although not at quarterback.
Maybe re-signing Cedric Benson wasn’t that big a priority for the Bengals, after all. He’ll hit free agency, but I doubt any team gives him the contract he’s looking for. Returning to the Bengals still seems like the most likely solution.

Vick's possible return shows the disciplinary policy on players is still evolving, and that with each new hearing/case that the commissioner must rule on. Will bring new stiffer penalties that in the future cases like Vick wont even attempt re-instatement.
In short Vick is another 2-bit thug and I would be ashamed to have him back in the nfl

I think Sage will be a great fit in MSP. He should be enough to keep that extra defender out of the box for A.P. - & what a season HE should have now in 09!

I for one believe that Vick should be given another chance. He has paid his due to society and I would welcome him on my team.

I think Philly would be wise to sign Marvel Smith given their uncertainties at tackle. At worst, it'd be a good depth move.

Cat lovers unite! Vick is back and with a NFL salary he can afford to run a gladiatorial doggie death house again!
On a more serious note, the Cards should drop Edge and free up some some money for Boldin/Breaston. Who knows, Edge may find the open market isn't what he thought and come back for a minimum contract and another shot at the playoffs.
I still say Vick's first game back should be vs Cleveland so the Dog Pound can go nuts with all the obvious material.
