Skinny Posts: Two days till Tampa

I'm gearing up to leave for Tampa Sunday, using today for some last minute prep for work down there. Plus we're getting the baseball draft guide ready for a Monday launch. Starting Sunday, I'll be blogging non-stop from Tampa.

  • Reason #4,081 Mike Tomlin is awesome. Here's what he said about Limas Sweed's big drop in the AFC Championship:

"I wasn't mad because he dropped the ball. That kind of mistake can happen to anyone. I was pissed that he'd lay on the ground, fake an injury and cost us our last timeout. My point was, Be a man! Grow up!"

  • The always-awesome Mike Tanier breaks out his All-Rookie team. A good reminder that the Colts had a quietly productive rookie class. Indy is thought of as an old team because of their offense, but they are actually one of the youngest in the league.

  • I don't interpret these quotes to mean that Matt Cassel wants to be Tom Brady's backup. He just knows he may not have a choice, and it sounds like he won't be the type to force a trade or hold out.

After all, what's he's going to say about his mentor Brady? That he wants to take his job? In Cassel's heart of hearts, he surely wants to remain the starter for the Patriots, but he can't say it publicly. He also must want to start somewhere, but knows he may have to wait a year to have his own team. If you were setting odds on the Patriots' Week 1 starter right now, it would be Cassel. And he would get $14 million guaranteed for one season, play in the perfect offense for him, then try to get paid even more the following year. Cassel has made less $2 million in his career.

  • Mike Lombardi thinks the coaching change won't save Vernon Gholston anytime soon.

  • Secrets to Arizona's playoff success.

  • Matt Bowen reminds us that a playoff loss is not the end of the world for players.

  • Scott Linehan dissed the 49ers, but may work for the Raiders.

  • Based on yesterday's Westbrook post, I'm leaving a poll below ...
