Skinny Posts: Brady speaks, doesn't say much

Tom Brady came out of hiding Wednesday to talk to the Fan590 in Toronto of all places. Brady didn't say much about his injury, except, "S*** happens." As Evan Silva pointed out, apparently you can say anything on Canadian radio.

Brady sounded predictably upbeat about his recovery and said all's well. I suspect we won't know much about Brady's rehab until the day he hits the field again - in game action. Tom Curran thinks that may not happen until midway through next year.

  • The Patriots are expected to promote Bill O'Brien to quarterbacks coach - not offensive coordinator. This sets up a situation where Bill Belichick looks like the favorite to call plays to start the season, much like 2005.

Tackle Matt Light was asked if Belichick is taking on too many roles:

"I actually saw Bill fly once, which was just incredible to see,” Light deadpanned yesterday. “He literally hovered, then flew almost Superman-like across to the other side of the practice facility. You can write that down. I saw it happen," Light paused. “So no, I’m not too worried about what he’s going to do.”

Asked about the same issue, Brady said, "There's change every year. ... We dealt with it three-to-four years ago. ... As long as we have coach Bill Belichick and Mr. Kraft, I think we'll be fine."

  • LaDainian Tomlinson says he has "ABSOLUTELY no control" over his situation in San Diego. That's not exactly true. A.J. Smith could ask Tomlinson to take a paycut before deciding to move. I suspect Tomlinson won't take that suggestion kindly, but how he handles that question may decide his future.

  • Former Bears coordinator John Shoop, perhaps the most hated coach I can remember, once tried to bar Todd Haley from coaching meetings.

  • Mike Mayock on USM tight end Shaun Nelson: He's a third-round pick at worse, maybe second round after the week he's had in Mobile. Mayock knew the kid could get vertical, but was surprised how willing he was as a blocker. Nelson should be able to bulk up 250 pounds.

  • Deion Sanders and Mike Zimmer: The odd couple.

  • A few days after Clear Channel announced 1,800 firings, the Browns laid off 18 people. 20 more might be coming.

  • The Buttsaw that is the Arizona Cardinals

  • A nifty Win Probability Calculator from AdvancedNFLStats.com. They also call Troy Polamalu's interception return for a touchdown the biggest play of the year. Hard to argue with that.

  • John Fox is no longer in a state of depression.

  • I agree with this statement about Ryan Grant: "After two seasons in Green Bay, it's pretty clear that Grant is a tough, durable, hard-nosed back capable of getting what's blocked. Anything beyond that, though, is a struggle."

The question: Is that good enough? With decent young reserves Brandon Jackson and DeShawn Wynn around, I think the Packers will answer yes. The Journal-Sentinel calls Wynn more "naturally talented" than Grant.

  • Grant's teammate Aaron Rodgers won't need shoulder surgery. Good news there.

  • Assuming Larry Coyer is Indy's next defensive coordinator, how much can he change the scheme? I would imagine he can only tweak it. The roster is the lightest in the league, they have ten starters returning, and not much cap room. Any change will have to be gradual.

  • Maybe Alex Smith isn't a goner in San Francisco, after all. He's throwing lightly again and the 49ers seem to want to keep him.

  • How was Bruce Springsteen's theme to The Wrestler not nominated for an Oscar?

so whats the new name for skinny posts?

I'll argue with it. The Steelers were winning at the time and did not give up another point. They just needed a stop. It was not a game winning, nor even a game changing, play. Tim Hightower's TD was a much bigger play.
