I enjoyed last night's BCS Championship as much as I possibly could with a sport that ultimately hands out its crown like figure skating, based on judges' scores and style points. But holy crap, Thom Brennaman was tough to take. I don't doubt everything he said about Mr. Tebow, but there was a football game with a lot of great football to discuss and other players to highlight.
Tebow says he'll play fullback in the pros if that's what he's asked to do. I could see him on the Patriots. They already borrow a lot of what Belichick BFF Urban Meyer does. They would be confident and creative enough to use him in a variety of ways, even if he doesn't take many snaps at quarterback. With all the Wildcat packages around the league, there should be a place for him, even if he's not a "franchise quarterback."
Beat writers are the lifeblood of Rotoworld's news page. Without them, we wouldn't have a website. One of my favorites from my first years working here, Mark Curnutte of the Cincy Enquirer, has asked for a transfer off the Bengals beat after nine years. He wrote a nice goodbye column: Thanks for all the stories over the years.
ESPN predicts who will be emerging stars in 2009.
With heavy winds expected tomorrow, expect plenty of Le'Ron McClain against the Titans. I love his vision and balance. It sounds like the Ravens plan to keep using him plenty at tailback next year, and Willis McGahee probably won't be around.
Clinton Portis is obsessed about his stats in the second half. The media would kill a guy like Terrell Owens if he bitched half this much about not hitting certain plateaus and not getting the ball enough. Portis did not play well down the stretch and needed fewer touches this season, not more.
It sounds like the Redskins would love another option at running back, but they only have four picks this year and bigger needs. They say they want to get Ladell Betts more involved, but we've heard that before.
Fred Jackson wants a long-term contract and he deserves one. He's one of the best backup running backs in the league. Marshawn Lynch dynasty league owners need to get him if they don't already have him. (Matheny, I'm talking to you!)
Ryan Wilson on Ben Roethlisberger and his "GINORMOUS" head.
It appears Josh McDaniels and Raheem Morris will be two of the three finalists for the Denver job. Jay Cutler would be in good shape with either choice. If Morris was hired, Denver's offense staff would likely be similar to last season.
Derek Anderson's $5 million roster bonus is fully guaranteed! What? This changes what I thought about Anderson yesterday and much of what we've written about Anderson's contract over the last year.
The Browns should still be motivated to trade Anderson, but cutting him is out of the question. And the pressure to trade Anderson just went way down. With this news, another summer-long battle is at least possible. Now if only Eric Mangini can get Charlie Weis to run the offense.
Reggie Bush says concerns about his knee surgery are overblown.
