Roy Williams can stiff delivery men in Dallas now

Our blurb on the Roy Williams deal is listed below. I'd write more here, but I need to get the Season Pass rankings up. Basically, this move adds another pair of hands to an overcrowded Dallas receiver group. Romo, Brad Johnson, and Calvin Johnson are winners. Megatron has less competition for targets. The Dallas Quarterbacks have more weapons.
Williams' value probably doesn't move. He gets a better quarterback in a month, but now may be the fourth option in his offense. That tradeoff is a wash. Dallas is asking for a T.Opisode in the next few years. It's hard to see him co-existing well with a similar receiver. Jerry Jones also just handed Williams' agent a ton of leverage because he'd look silly if Williams doesn't re-sign with the team now. Williams' contract expires at the end of the year.
The rest of the impact is after the jump. Let me know if you agree with my take.
NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the Cowboys have acquired Roy Williams from the Lions for a first, third, and sixth-round draft pick.
Because the one thing they are missing is a diva wide receiver with an expiring contract. That is a huge bounty for Detroit, especially when no one else wanted Williams. The move smacks of desperation on the heels of an ugly weekend in Dallas, but Williams helps Brad Johnson's chances for short-term success. Still, there are only so many targets to go around. Williams is going to be the fourth option (behind Owens, Witten, and Barber) in a loaded offense and will remain inconsistent. His fantasy stock does goes up for the stretch run once Tony Romo returns. Patrick Crayton takes the biggest hit on the team, but T.O. and Jason Witten will also lose some targets.

Comments
if dallas can weather the next 4 weeks without romo, they've got a better shot to win it all now than before. of course, that's a mighty big if. doesn't help that my gints just saw their penises fall off last night.

I was just about to link to the article common linked to. The cowboys spent big but they were well-positioned to spend what they did. It worked out well for both sides.

They had extra picks in the 3rd (Cleveland); 4th (Detroit); 5th (Tennessee); and 6th (Miami) rounds of the 09 draft.

Even after this deal, the Cowgurlz still have 1 pick in the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th rounds and 2 picks in the 4th, 5th, and 7th rounds. Repeat -- they still have 9 picks in next year's draft.
You can criticize this deal on a number of levels (i.e. the Cowgurlz' problem is chemistry and coaching, not a lack of talent), but the "cost" of the deal in terms of picks really isn't one of them.

One thing that is being over-looked is a Jerry Jones comment viewing Williams as an eventual replacement for an aging Owens. I think that if TO is smart, he will stop complaining about his role in the offense immediately or he will no longer have one.

Going forward, if you had to start either T.O. or Calvin Johnson on a weekly basis, which has more upside? I would lean Megatron - someone has to catch passes in Detroit...but Roy Williams drawing the double team is also gone....
