Fix Time

On this week's Tuesday show, Tiffany and I talk about which players that are back from the dead are for a real, and who is in the tank for good. Tiff also is pissed for losing this week to the intern.

Waiver time

A lot of the same names as possible waiver picks, so won't repeat them all.

Wideouts
1. Bobby Engram
2. Lance Moore if you missed last week.
3. Kevin Curtis
4. Reggie Brown
5. Deion Branch
6. Arnaz Battle
7. Robert Meachem: Slowly believing but 40 yards-per-catch is tough to keep up.
8. Muhsin Muhammad
9. The Giants' Steve Smith
10. Chris Henry

Running Back
1. LeRon McClain
2. Deuce McAllister
3. Mewelde Moore: Nice to have him back in the mix, but he's probably a one-week solution.
4. Ryan Torain

Quarterbacks
1. Marc Bulger
2. Kyle Orton: Gets the Lions this week if you need a spot start
3. Brady Quinn

Tight End
1. Anthony Fasano: In case he was dropped during the bye week
2. Zach MIller: In case others don't pick him up during his bye.

Baltimore's defense is back

Tony Kornheiser gets a lot wrong on these Monday Night games. The statement that galled me the most tonight was his statement that the Ravens defense isn't doing anything special, and that it's the Steelers offense that is to blame. While Pittsburgh has their share of problems, Baltimore's defense is back to being the best in the league.

I know they've only played the AFC North, but great defenses dominate inferior competition. That's what Baltimore has done in all three games.

I wrote in my MNF preview how impressed I was with Joe Flacco and how Willis McGahee has dominated the workload when healthy. Those trends have continued tonight. Baltimore is 20 minutes away from going 3-0 in the division.

Ben Roethlisberger's hand, which reportedly was swollen all week, is becoming a concern.

And of course the Steelers score 14 points in 15 seconds after I type up that last post. Will be fun watching to see how Joe Flacco responds now.

Rankings Updates

Not a lot of huge changes this week.

Quarterbacks: Damon Huard up. I'm not overly concerned with Carson Palmer's elbow.

Running Backs: Reggie Bush up slightly, Matt Forte down, Earnest Graham and Jamal Lewis down slightly. Darren McFadden down. Jonathan Stewart up. Brian Westbrook on the list just in case.

Wide Receivers: Bryant Johnson, Brandon Lloyd, and David Patten all down. They are ranked as if they will start. Patten is the least likely. Jerry Porter is on the list.

Ravens vs. Steelers, 'Skins vs. Cowboys

Between the column and the videos, every matchup is covered except two. Those two are below. I'll update the rankings in a while and then start pregaming for the debate.

Ravens @ Steelers

Baltimore is the most impressive defense in the NFL thus far. That could mean a long night for all Steelers. Since Rashard Mendenhall has failed to impress in practice, I'm not high on him proving RB2 value against Baltimore. Mewelde Moore will probably be very involved. ... Ben Roethlisberger is going to see a lot of blitzes and could get killed here. That will make it hard for Santonio Holmes to have time to get open deep.

Fix time

Four matchup previews with Tiffany below, including Raiders/Chargers.

The Sunday Night Preview is after the jump. I know there will be a lot of questions about Westbrook. I doubt he'll play, but you never know. I would only wait for him if you have a capable option (Correll Buckhalter) to replace him in the late games.

Bills vs. Rams

Bills @ Rams

People forget how poor Trent Green looked at the end of his run in Kansas City and Miami. Between that and the dissatisfaction among his teammates, I don’t expect any improvement. That makes Torry Holt a WR2, and I’m ready to downgrade him if he doesn’t show something this week. Donnie Avery is not a fantasy option. … I'd keep Steven Jackson in lineups. He's just getting the ball so much. ... Fred Jackson is a reasonable flex play this week because he’ll get 15 touches if the Bills can get out to an early lead. Trent Edwards has enjoyed his best efforts late in games. Perhaps Dick Jauron will let him be more aggressive early. … Despite the mismatch, don’t go crazy and play Robert Royal.

Moore is not less

This is Robert Meachem, the Saint you don't want this week

If I was making a poll today, the question would be: How fun is it to spend the afternoon wiping out your hard drive and having your computer re-installed because the blue screen of death won't leave you alone?

My response: not fun.

Something that was fun: watching the Broncos/Saints on Shortcuts last night while my wife sat a room away quietly cursing me. I know I'm a sucker for Troy Brown wannabes, but I'm convinced Lance Moore can make a difference with Jeremy Shockey, Marques Colston, and possibly David Patten out.

Moore works out of the slot, just like Shockey. Moore saw seven targets last week, four more than Robert Meachem has seen all season. Moore caught every one of them, one on a dive, one on a great leaping grab.

It's always dangerous to bet on the Saints' secondary receivers, because Drew Brees will spread the ball around. But he's long been a champion of Moore getting playing time, and has a trust factor with him. I like Moore as a WR3 this week in a game that should feature plenty of passing yards. Sean Payton, perhaps the most innovative offensive mind in football, always finds a way.

Stewart vs. Ronnie Brown

The earlier poll was such a massive hit, let's do it again.

One of the parts I love about this job is how much value can change in a week. Seven days ago, I'm pretty sure every Ronnie Brown owner would have dealt him for a young, rising star like Jonathan Stewart. After Stewart was stuffed by the Vikings and Ronnie went wild, it's a closer call.

These are two of my favorite players. I tried to remain steadfast in my belief of Brown's abilities during the preseason Ricky Williams hype, and it's great to see him recovering all his skills. But how high is his ceiling? Will the Dolphins staff let him be a true lead back? Who will get more touches the rest of the way: Stewart or Brown?

That's a lot of questions. You can answer by choosing below. My gut says Stewart's ceiling for 2008 is a little higher. I like the offense around him better, especially the line. These are both low RB2 players who should prove to be good draft values, but my money is on Stewart being more consistent.
