Torain's injury opens door for other Broncos

He coulda been a contender. Ryan Torain had every shot to start games for the Broncos this season and excel before he broke his elbow Wednesday. Judging by Mike Shanahan's depressed comments Wednesday comparing Torain to Terrell Davis, the rookie may have started sooner than later.

"One of the most gifted running backs that I’ve been around for a long time," Shanny said. He could miss anywhere from 6 weeks to three months, depending on which Denver paper you believe. An MRI should give us a better idea on the ligament damage.

The injury benefits the rest of the Denver backs. Selvin Young is a better bet to dominate carries as long as he holds up. Andre Hall now needs to be taken seriously. Like any Denver backup, he’s worth a flier. He could stick as Young’s backup, something that seemed unlikely with Torain around. Michael Pittman will be moved back to tailback and must be monitored closely. He has value in deep PPR leagues.

Torain’s prognosis will determine his value. If his recovery is projected closer to six weeks, the Broncos should keep him active and he’s still worth a deep league flier pick. If it’s three months, Denver may place him on injured reserve.

We expected surprises in Denver’s backfield, but this one was particularly unpleasant. For once, it wasn’t The Mastermind’s fault.

This has to be good for Selvin's value. How high does he go now?

4th or 5th round I would guess...Most of the people I draft avoid Dever backs so he almost always goes 4-6th round.

Selvin usually goes around the 70th pick.

Even with this injury people might only bump him into the 60's

"for once it wasn't the masterminds fault" come on dude, seiously. are you and the pft guy (florio) best buds or what. it just seams to me that you guys both take shots at him whenever you can. pretty bush league (imo). if shanny ever leaves there would be atleast 10 teams begging him to be their coach. you get a penalty for needless piling on.

This is why I stay away from Denver RBs...didn't shanahan make a similar statement regarding young last season "one of the most talented backs...blah blah blah"

no not to my knowledge. he did say that he doubted selvin young could handle 20-25 touched a game. shannahan is a manipulator, if anything he'll be harsh with a back to try and motivate them. look for shanny to try and bring in another back if this injury lasts months.

Can't we all just admit that Mike Shanahan just might be a hack after all.

It seems like ever since his Elway and Davis days he has been trying to recreate perfect clones of them. The guy undermines every player and coach in the organization to achieve this goal...and it's showed over the past few Bronco seasons. I can't imagine wanting to play for a team when I had zero job security even if I played well just because the coach decides he has a new man crush.

His time is almost up..and rightfully so
