Draft Notes ... and Steve Jack is back

Stray thoughts about rounds 9 and 10 of the Mock Draft I wrote about today

* Interesting to see Anthony Gonzalez's value falling some with Marvin Harrison enjoying a healthy camp. There are only so many passes to go around.

* Chris Perry wouldn't go in the ninth round if we re-did the draft tonight now that he's the starter. I've been writing about him all off-season, so I'm enjoying the development. Especially since I acquired him in my dynasty league for a move down in the fourth round rookie draft and the Bucs Alex Smith. Hot damn! Better trade him before he gets hurt.

* Taking Vince Young as a QB2 was another gut check for me. But I love the upside that deep, preseason be damned. It was either him or Aaron Rodgers and I saw a big tier drop-off. Ray Rice not falling to me hurt. He's definitely moved into the upper tier of fun backups to take in the ninth-round.

* Chris Brown went ahead of Ahman Green and Steve Slaton.

* Devin Hester in the ninth!

* Industry types, for what it's worth, aren't that into Brett Favre's comeback.

* Reggie Brown's bad preseason is hurting him, falling to the tenth. Not a terrible value there.

* The Vikings are hte first defense to go in the ninth. The Chargers go in the tenth. The order is a little different than normal, but the rounds are about right. I still prefer waiting.

* Guys like Vernon Davis and Owen Daniels will be there in PPR leagues this late. With twelve solid tight end options, the last few to take one get value.

* And we interrupt this rambling to tell you that Steven Jackson is back! I said not to worry unless he was still out after this weekend. He made it in time.

Where is are the results for the earlier rounds?

Gregg,

I've got to say, you are nuts. I easily take Aaron Rogers over Vince Young.

Aaron Rogers is an actual QB will real weapons at wide receiver. Young is a glorified slash who has yet to prove he can throw the ball with any accuracy and is playing with a "hole" in his quad (which cannot be good for his running stats).

Vince's name on draft boards should come with one of those warning pictures of fingers getting chopped off (beware if you reach here!). Mark my words.

Where would you rank Perry now with the news he claimed the starting role in Cinci(for now).

Gregg - the new mock draft software is great. Only problem is that Zach Miller is missing.

Looking forward to seeing the updates in the draft guide for recent news on Perry, Curtis, etc. Thanks.

I have the number one overall pick in a PPR league. The obvious consensus pick is LT2.

Can ANYONE envision a scenario in which I do NOT pick LT2?

The reason it's a concern -- Shaun Alexander has a record breaking season, which was his 6th season in the NFL, and two years later, he is released.

LT has a record breaking season, his 6th season, and regressed (which was expected) the following year, but still had an incredible year.

Is LT the next Preist Holmes/Shaun Alexander?

Or is it the only way you can go with the Number One Number One?

Joe - I share your LT concerns. Alexander was age 29 in '06 when he crashed after 2 huge years. Exact same cicumstances with Faulk in '02 at age 29. Both these guys were overwhelming #1 picks, began the year with mostly mediocre games followed by mid-season injuries. LT is 29 this year. The playoff injury was an early warning sign for me!! I'm planning to take a chance on AP even in a PPR league. (Note: Holmes was the anomoly - his two monster years were @ age 29 & 30)
