Could Steve Smith get dealt?

Steve Smith's problems with the Panthers organization may run deeper than his recent fight with Ken Lucas. At least that's what Matt Mosley of ESPN indicates in his blog. Mosley says there are "rumblings" that the Panthers could consider dealing Smith, and that Smith's name has already come up in conversations with Dallas.

Let's be real here: The odds on a trade at this point, especially with John Fox and GM Marty Hurney on the hot seat, seem slim to none. The Panthers offense can barely afford to lose their best player for two games, much less the season. Still, it's a story worth tracking because Smith's two game suspension would likely be lifted in a new locale.

I will write about the situation more, but the punishment didn't wind up hurting Smith that much in our updated projections. Steve Smith + two games of a receiver off your bench still equals top-ten production. Don't let him slip out of the third round.

moss, a. johnson, fitzgerald, colston, edwards, marshall are the only ones that have anything on Smith and none other than Moss is superior. You guys are nuts. No wide receiver since rice plays with as much intensity as smith. This guy goes up for anything and when he hits the ground running he is damn hard to catch.

I wish SSmith would punch the first poster in the face. Just like Lucas, he isn't doing his team any good.

I gotta agree.. U just cant hate on a guy who produces 1000 yd season with piss poor qb play. He punched a piece garbage in his nose so what. He will produce this year with way better qb production whether it be from Moore or Dehlomme. His playmaking ability is off the chain as well. He is also one of the tougher WR out there.

Just when you think this discussion couldn't get any more ignorant, somebody goes off and calls Ken Lucas a 'piece of garbage'...

Look, Smith is a talented guy with a track record of doing really dumb things. You'd better believe that his talent is the only thing keeping the Panthers from kicking him to the curb.

There is a fine line between Brandon Marshall's brand of knuckle-headedness and Steve Smith's and, if the Panther's tank this year, look for Fox to be gone and Smith traded because if they're not winning there isn't any reason to keep a guy with an assault-problem around.

I personally don't think much of steve smith. the guy really is a punk (imo). yes he'll make two or three jaw dropping plays a year but I prefer bigger wr's. teams can do more with them (especially in the redzone). I've never targeted smith in any ff draft and probably never will. I half agree with the first poster, I draft atleast 7 of those guys he listed befor smith.
