Jeremy Shockey matters again

Jeremy Shockey can't complain about his offense anymore. Landing in New Orleans represents the absolutely perfect scenario to rehab his fantasy value. No team throws more than the Saints, and they desperately needed a second option behind Marques Colston to make tough catches over the middle. Shockey already knows Sean Payton's system, one that is built on short passes and yards after the catch. That's Shockey's specialty.
Saints tight ends caught 75 passes last year. Shockey's career high was 74, in his rookie season. If Shockey stays healthy, I would expect him to break that mark. He never stays healthy for long, though. He is coming off a broken leg and remains a huge injury risk. I will have a column tomorrow about what the trade does exactly to Shockey's ranking and projections. I have to work out the numbers still, but here's a preview: They are going up.

He's still not a top tier TE pick. Based on their ADPs if I wait until his level to draft a TE I'd rather wait a little longer and pick up Owen Daniels. Much better value.

I'm telling you, Brett Favre never intended on returning to play. He just told the Vikings he wanted to so the Packers could bust them for tampering and get a free draft pick. One last help to the Packers and FU to the Vikes on his way out.

Eric Johnson is as good a pass catching tight end as Shockey anyway (or at least ballpark-as-good). Bad move for the Saints, good value for the Champs.
I think it probably hurts Colston a bit, and maybe Bush. Probably helps Brees slightly.

How many times do I gota say it. Follow the money. Colston will have his biggest year yet. I'll say top three WR. Colston is playing for a new contract next year. Shockey being there wont stop that. Like it was stated in the article above Saints TE had more catches than Shockey has ever had. So Colston will still get 95 to 105 catches, with a higher ypc average.
The real winner in the Shockey trade is Brees. Brees will have a lot of easy throws, pitch and catch in the back yard type of season. Defenses wont double team Colston, Shockey, and Bush. More yards more TD's and less Int's.
The Saints throw more than any team. I say Brees is the highest scoring QB this year.
Do you guys agree or disagree?

Shannon,
the highest scoring QB is pretty ambitious, but I'm thinking he'll bypass a QB or two in the rankings to the #3 spot. And, since no one will drop Brady or Manning in keeper leagues, I'm thinking of holding on to Brees.
Gregg, can I get a witness?
Thanks, Rick
