This Year's Welker

In one of the articles of our second magazine, Mark St. Amant has an interview with Wes Welker and talks about his man-crush on the Patriots receiver. We are including a breakout box of candidates to be "This year's Welker." That would be a receiver who emerges from the WR4/5/6 swampland to catch a whole lot of passes. (Extra points if he does it from the slot).
I have a quick list of candidates, but don't want it to just look like a repeat of my sleeper list. That's where you guys come in. Put on your tout hat and give me a player or two you think could be this year's Welker.

Bryant Johnson (SF) - he's always produced when Fitz or Bolden were out in Arizona. I think he will challenge Bruce to lead the 49ers in receiving.

Kevin Curtis
McNabb got progressively better last year as he healed from his knee injury, the Philly offense has talked about not working Westbrook so hard (i.e. more passes to go around), the TE position is in flux, he has a full year in the system, and has shown he can have tremendous games on occasion for the Iggles.

Robert Meachem? Might be a reach, and he might end up being the No. 2 if he has a good camp.

Anthony Gonzalez - Definite sleeper. Wont be this low again after this year. If you believe Harrison is done, and that Clark will never reach those numbers again, you have to pick him up. Great QB's need no.2 receiving targets.
Jerry Porter - No where to go but up. Gerrard has to throw to somebody, and he's head and shoulders above the other receivers. Ground game priority could hinder production, but 80 receptions isn't out of the question.
DJ Hackett - Hey somebody's gotta catch passes besides Smith. And when Delhomme is on, he spreads the ball around - TE King early last year before getting hurt, and getting Keyshawn big numbers during a healthy '06.
Demetrius Williams - If he can get decent QB play. His numbers could come from injuries to Clayton (again) and a less substantial role for Mason this year now that McNair is gone.
Bobby Engram - If everyone in your league believes last year was a fluke, he could likely repeat.
Antonio Bryant - Could see a lot of targets if he really has matured. If you take Hilliards numbers last year and give them a little boost, Bryant could very well amount this.

Kevin Curtis is not a WR 4/5/6. I would say Jason Avant from the eagles - he plays in the slot, going into his 3rd year in the league, played through a sports hernia, but showed some potential at the beginning of 2007.
I also like james jones from the packers.
