The evolution of Clinton Portis

Outstanding article about Clinton Portis today by Pancake Blocks defending blogger of the year, Jason LaCanfora of the Washington Post.

The article takes a look at the many sides of Portis, with good inside scoops at how he got preferred treatment under Joe Gibbs. LaCanfora is above writing a puff piece, and his main point that Portis is starting to take his job more seriously is a good sign as he enters his seventh season.

I like Portis but you have to handcuff Betts to him and use a roster spot because of his injury issues. Even when he isn't really hurt he gets up slow after almost every tackle and limps around enough to give you a heart attack if he's your RB1 and you dont have Betts. Maybe he is taking his career more seriously now and will have a good year. I'd take him ahead of LJ unlike most rankings and mock drafts I've seen.

Portis is obviously one of the toughest guys in the leauge and think he'll have a great year. He's finally healthy and I'm pretty sure that any preferential treatment he got under Gibbs was because Gibbs knew how banged up he was constantly and still played as hard as he did.

It's not really his fault he's not the power runner that Gibbs always tried to force him to be, and he's still had pretty productive seasons.

He's my #6 back...I'd like to hear where everyone else has him.

As a 'Skins fan trying not to look thru my Burgundy & Gold glasses - CP is one of the most complete backs in the biz.

He is a legit runner and receiver, but is no doubt the best blitz pick up back I have ever seen.

I do have a feeling that he and Moss both will have a strong year due to their re-dedication to the game in the wake of the SeanTay tragedy.

Go 'Skins!

BONG!

(and J-La is no joke, Redskins Insider is off the chains!)

1. I don't get the bong thing and its totally gay.

2. I have Portis 3rd......in the NFC East, behind Barber and Westbrook. Jacobs is close but behind Portis. Addai, LT, SJax, Lynch and AD are still obviously ahead of Portis. That makes him 8.

One of the rookies (at least) will do better than LJ this year, and probably even crack my top 8 list. Only question is, which one? Forte? Smith? Stewart? Mendenhall? McFadden?

I'd put Portis @ 7 in a redraft... behind Peterson, S-Jax, Tomlinson, Addai, Westbrook, and Gore.

Lynch had a good rookie year and would be above Portis in a keeper format, but not redraft yet. I'd rank MB and Jones-Drew, being in time shares, just behind Portis.

Well, I won't argue with you much putting Portis ahead of Lynch especially after his legal troubles. Gotta say The Barbarian is ahead of Portis though. Marion's time share will be less sharing since Julius is gone. Felix will be mostly a Reggie Bush type guy. No goal line work and on passing downs Dallas will put Felix out in a pass pattern and won't trust him to block so Marion is still on the field. Barring injury count on Barber for 1300 rushing yards and 12 TDs. That will put him slightly ahead of Portis with less injury risk.

portis (for the first time since the denver days) will finally get to run the way he likes to and should get alot of passing targets. portis could put up some really scary numbers this year. thanks for leaving joe gibbs. now portis can be a stud again.
