Make Fun of my Team

Okay, so there is no actual football news until camp starts and everyone covering the NFL is taking a vacation. (I probably would too, but our second magazine is due later than usual this year).

So instead of news, we'll talk about the subject no one cares about: My fantasy teams. Take a look at the results from yesterday's KPII draft and you can comment on what I'm missing, where I picked someone too early, and who I got at a good value. This was a PPR league with six points per passing touchdown.

QB: Jay Cutler (8.09), Matt Schaub (10.09)
RB: Adrian Peterson (1.04), Ronnie Brown (4.09), Jonathan Stewart (5.04), Kenny Watson (12.09), Pierre Thomas (13.04)
WR: Andre Johnson (2.09), Steve Smith (3.04), Marvin Harrison (6.09), Lee Evans (7.04), Vincent Jackson (11.04), Ernest Wilford (14.09)
TE: Owen Daniels (9.04)
K: Adam Vinatieri (16.09)
DEF: Steelers (15.04)

Comments: I have to admit I like this team, which is usually the kiss of death. We start three wideouts and a flex, which means I plan to start four wideouts ideally most weeks. This is a bit of a boom-or-bust team with AP, Brown, Stewart, and Harrison, but I thought they all came at good values. I feel comfortable with Daniels in this format, although I didn't love the pick because I could have had Todd Heap at 8.09, if I risked Cutler not getting back to me. But I love Cutler this season and couldn't keep risk waiting on him. Another favorite of mine at tight end, Zach Miller, went undrafted.

I am a little tired of being in these drafts with all the same people. Tom Kessenich and I seem to be working off similar draft boards. Andy Richardson from Fantasy Index was another guy who thought alike.

Cutler screwed me good last year, so I definitely think your QB position is your weakness. With Marshall facing suspension and the Broncos fading, that spot would worry me.

It's always my favorite team that ends up crapping on me each season.

Not bad, Greg. I'm not enamored of your RB situation, but have a mancrush on your WR corps depth. Was Thomas Jones or Brandon Jacobs available at 4.09? I'd prefer either. Heck, even Rudi might get more carries than Brown. Your QBs are fine value picks. I'm a little surprised you didn't commit to a better TE, but guess there's upside there with Daniels. Steelers and Vinatieri are late-rounders.

Does that mean you only have to start 1 RB or do you have 2 RB slots, 3 WR, and a flex?

I think you stole AP at 1.04 and like your top 3 picks, but things get sketchy after that.

Your #2 RB situation is dicey at best with a committee rookie and a fresh ACL reconstruction. I also would have let someone else be the guy who takes a chance on Marvin Harrison this year or I'd have made sure I got Anthony Gonzalez as insurance. You can start a ton of receivers, so I'd probably give you a pass for the risk, but you could've grabbed 4th RB for depth, a different WR or an upgrade over your current TE or QB in the 6th instead and, imo, come out better.

As for your fliers, I'm not going to quibble about anyone you got after the 11th. I'm not that high on Watson, though he's as likely as anyone to emerge in Cincinnati this season, but I like Thomas a lot and Wilford in the 14th sounds about right for him.

Really do not like this team. I would like to see others to compare but this team really looks like it has issues Greg!
Especially at QB and TE - a 6 pt per TD Pass league could hurt alot with these 2 QB's - and Daniels is gonna leave you trying hard to make up alot of ground - I would be curious to see when you picked R Brown - what TE's were available? I would think a real good TE at that spot with Stewart (LOVE THAT PICK) stepping in at starting RB would be a nice choice. Also Lee Evans worries me for you esp in a PPR league. I wonder what other WR's were available there. Now like i said - without seeing the other teams who knows. But i worry about some things on that squad of yours!

Jay Culter going to have a disaster year... Marshall head isn't screwed on straight... Darrell Jackson is washed up... I don't see Denver's receivers being any good... And I think Marshall is going to be a head case until he is suspensed...

I think you did well here. I don't love either of your quarterbacks, especially with Brandon Marshall a question mark in Denver, but you should be okay with one of them panning out.

Your top three running backs are solid, but I would like to see more depth there. Peterson has obvious injury issues from time to time and with Brown coming off a serious injury and Stewart still somewhat of an unknown quantity, it could be sketchy. But you have three starters with good upside so I like that. And of course Watson and Thomas could both be starters as well.

At receiver, you have great depth. Getting Andre Johnson and Steve Smith could be killer this year. I personally feel Harrison was a bit of a reach in the 6th round considering no one seems to know where he's at, healthwise. And even if he comes back and plays a full season, you have to think he's lost a step and is down the pecking order in Indy. That said, I think Lee Evans makes up for it in the 7th and I like Vincent Jackson deep in the draft.

I won't comment on TE, K or Def because I feel those are positions of luck outside of the top 2 or 3 at each position.

All in all I would say you have a team that will compete each week, but in a league that awards 6 points per passing TD, I'm not sure Cutler and Schaub can get you to the title. Then again, maybe Peterson and Brown will stay healthy and carry you all the way. Either way I'll be pulling for you.

QB and WR are weak especially if you want to play 4 WRs, you could easily end up with a double bagel after Smith and Andre. RBs not bad, great upside potential. Worst is Defense. With their schedule, Pitt will get pounded this year. In division, Cleveland and Cincy will score big against them twice apiece. Out of division, Dallas, Eagles, Pats, Chargers, Indy and Jax will bagel their defense. Giants, Texans, Titans and Skins won't give up much to the D. So you're left with Ravens 2 games to have your D put up points. Not!
