Benson is making it easy on Bears

Cedric Benson is making this too easy on the Bears. The team wants to hold on to him too long, to avoid admitting they made a mistake. But after his latest arrest, they have their excuse to cut him.

GM Jerry Angelo won't guarantee Benson is staying put, and many think today will be his last as a Bear. If I had to bet on it, I'd put Benson's odds of staying at one-in-three.

Skinny Posts: Steven Jackson hurt?

  • So if you are looking for a deeeeeep sleeper to start at wideout in Kansas City: Meet Will Franklin and Marcus Price.

  • Not a huge concern, but Steven Jackson is a little banged up. Perhaps just skipping summer work.

  • Josh McCown could start in Miami.

  • This is starting to sound like a three-way committee in Oakland.

  • Ryan Grant continues to skip work

Offseason holdouts usually receive too much attention. Ryan Grant's hasn't received enough, at least from fantasy leaguers.

Sure, it's not technically a holdout because he's unsigned. And the coaching staff has lauded Grant for working out hard while he aims for a better contract. But Grant is not exactly an established veteran. He was behind DeShawn Wynn midway through last season and still has parts of his game (short-yardage) to clean up. He's no rookie, but he's only played 15 career games.

This is not a situation that has changed my projection, but Grant owners can't love the fawning Brandon Jackson coverage this offseason. It's not a huge story yet, but it will be if Grant skips mandatory minicamp too. I suspect he'll get back to work with a new contract soon enough. If he knows what's good for him.

    Projecting Change: Draft guide moves

So it's the first week of June, and our online draft guide is officially for sale. Rotoworld Grand Poobah Rick Cordella is tapping his fingers maniacally somewhere, excited that it's out three weeks earlier than ever before.

So the early availability means early projection changes. Listed below are a few of the players who have been adjusted up and down in the last few weeks. And here are a few reasons to check out the guide. Let us know what you think.

    Puff Piece Detetector: Ricky Williams

First things first: No pun intended with the title.

I have to admit I'm a sucker for Ricky Williams. He passes the test I have with movies; I consider one worthwhile If I've never seen any like it. And there is only one Ricky Williams.

    Whimsy

When the royal we moves on from Deadspin, well, that deserves a link, even if it's not football related. Congratulations are in order.

I always thought Deadspin was more about Leitch's personality than auguring in a new era of sports bloggery, even if that was the consequence. That's why I've read it every day since the first month, and why I personally don't enjoy most Deadspin-style blogs out there. Nothing wrong with them, they just that they don't have Leitch and there are only so many hours in the day. (Of course, I can't go a day without reading blogs like Instant 49ers or the Jet Stream so I'm probably not your average web reader).

Reggie Williams will be a bust whether the starts or not

Here's a teaser for our online draft guide and magazine: Reggie Williams is listed as a bust. He is going to be drafted way too early for a player who hasn't topped 629 yards in four seasons. Sure, he scored ten touchdowns last year, but that was in 38 catches! That's not sustainable (He had five career scores before last season).

    The Marshawn Lynch case

I've already had some people ask about the Marshawn Lynch case, so let's discuss it here. First of all, there is always some discomfort discussing the fantasy football impact of something as serious as a hit-and-run. But if it affects Lynch, a top-eight pick in our current rankings, we can't ignore the implications for too long.

First thing to mention: Lynch has not been charged. Today we learned a couple key points, though: Lynch's SUV was found at his house after the accident. And there is a maximum of a one year penalty in jail for leaving the scene of an accident in Buffalo. This is a Class A misdemeanor.

    New Fix

I'm spending today up in our Stamford World Headquarters, dusting the corners of our online draft guide, which will be coming out tonight. (Yes, that's weeks earlier than ever before.)

In the meantime, Tiffany was back on the Fix we taped below. We try to decipher what the reinvention of Ocho Cinco means, and look at other possible missing players. Jonathan Ogden's impending retirement is of the greatest concern to fantasy leaguers.

Duckett looks like odd man out

T.J. Duckett's contract indicated that he would have a sizeable role in the Seattle offense, possibly reprising his old Falcons role as vulture extraordinaire. Mike Holmgren, however, disagrees.
