Skinny Posts: Smelly hands

  • An important Chris Cooley/Jason Campbell interview, that includes this exchange: "Rabach has even farted on my hand which is a feelin that never really wears off. I can actually feel it while we’re doing this interview right now."

  • A nuanced take on the LeCharles Bentley saga from the dean of Cleveland sports, Terry Pluto. He also has some interesting bits on Brady Quinn's improvement.

  • A nice summation of the Bengals roster.

  • More from Earnest Graham: He showed up in good shape, but won't guarantee that he will be to training camp on time. And he recognizes that he's not a lock to start.

  • Mike Lombardi's enlightening new blog talks about Javon Walker, with good inside information.

  • Graham shows up to work

We've already discussed this season why Earnest Graham is so tough to rank. Cadillac Williams' latest recovery stories only make it harder, although we doubt Caddy will be a factor until there is snow outside my window.

Javon Walker's offseason just took an ugly turn

Scary news, as he was found unconscious in Las Vegas, with an orbital bone (eye area) fracture. In what promises to be a quiet month for news, I'm expecting to hear a lot of twists and turns following this story.

    What we learned: Bengals Minicamp

    1. Second-round pick Jerome Simpson is well behind fellow rookie Andre Caldwell. Caldwell has a decent chance to be the team's third receiver, but Marcus Maxwell and Antonio Chatman are also in the mix.

    2. Chad Johnson just can't go through with being a true pain in the ass. By the last day of minicamp, he was fully practicing and talking plenty with Carson Palmer. This is not a T.O. in Philadelphia situation.

    3. Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry remain healthy, and at the top of the depth chart at running back. After DeDe Dorsey was hurt, undrafted rookie James Johnson may have a shot to make the team.

Mailbag Answers: Jackson could start for NE

I opened the floor Gleeman-style to questions last week, and will answer a couple at a time this week during the blog. (On a related note, make sure to vote in this important election year.) You can still submit questions or email me and I'll answer the best.

Who do you like emerging to start opposite of Randy Moss in NE? You seem down on Gaffney, but is Jackson really the answer? I haven't seen him play. If Jackson's not who could be?

    What we learned: Browns minicamp

    1. Kellen Winslow's recovery is going just fine, thank you. He'll be ready for camp.

    2. Joe Jurevicius may not be ready for the season. If that helps anyone, it could be Winslow and Donte Stallworth, who figure to see more targets.

    3. Brady Quinn has some wheels. He reportedly out-ran linebacker Leon Williams for 40 yards down the field.

    4. Browns line has great depth, but they won't have the upside of LeCharles Bentley's return. Something tells me he's not going to make them regret releasing him.

    Skinny Posts: Run, Ronnie Run

With Evan Silva out of town, I've been filling in on the regular news page, so apologies for the quiet blog. Here were some links frm the morning I found interesting ...

  • Ronnie Brown's recovery continues to progress

  • The Dolphins are buying what Tony Sporano is selling. I like the Dolphins to "surprise" some people this year by gutting out six-to-seven wins or so.

  • Does this sound familiar Texans and Panthers fans?:

Brandon Marshall can't pronounce Nmamdi either

Brandon Marshall is on track to start catching passes with both hands on June 22, and appears to be getting a head start already. He also is studying up on his opponents:

    Skinny Posts: BYOL

  • New Marshawn Lynch developments, including a dancing pedestrian and Lynch's previous interactions with the police. Apparently Lynch has been tossed from a few local bars for ordering soda, then pouring ihis own liquor into the glass. Thrifty.

  • The Arizona quarterback rotation could be coming back. (Although I doubt it). The Cardinals are yet another team done with OTAs this week.

  • Ranking the class of 2013

I just watched Jonathan Ogden's press goodbye press conference. It will receive less fanfare than other big names to quit this offseason, but Ogden's dominance is second to none. His best line of the presser: "I want to thank them for bringing in me over Lawrence Phillips. I still think that was a good decision."

There has been a lot of talk of all the surefire Hall of Famers in this retiring class, but they can't all go in together. Three is the all-time high of first-ballot Hall of Famers going in at the same time. Here's how I'd rank this retiring group, in order of how they'll enter the Hall.

    Sure-fire First Ballot of Famers

    1. Brett Favre: 3 MVPs, enough said.
    2. Jonathan Ogden: Argument could be made as the greatest ever to play his position. He changed the position.
