Henry release shakes up rankings

What a busy Monday I missed while flying back from the marathon! (Well, actually I got to follow along on the plane. God bless Jetblue.)

Pacman is back, Odell Thurman never will be, and T.O. got Randy Moss money. None of those three mean nearly as much as Travis Henry's release.

I break down the new Denver backfield in a quick column today. The Denver Post sees the situation the same way: Selvin Young is the favorite to start early, while Michael Pittman will play a backup role to the young Denver backs. Ryan Torain is a candidate to emerge as the leader, but it will probably be later than sooner. I can see them all being good fantasy values at the right price.

Just like the Javon Walker release, Mike Shanahan got personal when dismissing Henry. It's possible an altercation preceded the move, which would not help Henry find gainful employment quickly. Detroit, Cincy, and Houston all make logical fits, although the Texans backfield is crowded.

thank god! as a diehard bronco fan stuck in lion country, i was sick and tired of the baby's daddy comments that i'd get from lions fans. shanny likes the way selvin has worked out in the offseason. lets see if he can break a few takles with his new weight. great move

With Shaun Alexander and Kevin Jones having trouble finding homes, I won't hold my breath for Travis Henry.

Shaking up the rankings, huh? Did anyone legitimately have Henry higher than a low-end #3? Would have seemed to be a no-brainer, given Henry's history and Shanny's fickle, to handcuff with one or more of Young, Hall, or Torain, if you happen to be one of the few who even bothers with Denver backs anymore.

More like a hiccup in the rankings...

yea i was a bit suprized by this too. but not so much after yet another rb was added in pittman... just the timing. looks like henry's done. oh well, no remorse here coming from someone who wasted a second rounder on him last year. and btw, great breakdown on the denver backfield gregg. imo, none of them hold much value in a dynasty format, year to year too volatile. who knows who they'll bring in next year.

i disagree scott. (although i understand your point) im hoping to draft torain with the 1st pick in round 4 in my rookie draft. shannys been looking for" the guy" since davis retired. he had it with portis but didnt like his attitude. once shannahan finds "his guy" i think he'll really run him. i think torain can be that guy

i'm one of the guys who stays away from denver rb's. however, there are some exceptions...
the volatility provides some value if you can grab the third or even fourth rb on the cheap or on the waiver wire, and stash them away. b/c unlike most teams, those third and fourth rb's might get a legit shot at carries.

and to go along with that, it sometimes works out as a handcuff to the guy who always seems to end up w/ the starting denver rb.
midway thru the preseason, he'll come sniffing around the guy who shanny said is looking great and might get some carries.
