Smith vs. Colston vs. Marshall

Some of you thought the Jamal Lewis vs. Michael Turner battle wasn't very close. I would argue that many of the same people thought Lewis was overrated as a fifth-round pick last year, but the people have spoken. Today's three-way battle is hopefully more interesting: Steve Smith vs. Marques Colston vs. Brandon Marshall.
This year looks promising for Smith, but he's annually overrated by us fantasy types because he's a great NFL player. He only topped 1,200 yards or eight touchdowns once in his career. Marshall and Colston have already equaled that total and play for better passing teams - especially Colston. There is some projecting here, but let's allow that Marshall is healthy well before most draft days, which is expected. Rank 'em in order if you please.

Well done Gregg!! I think S.Smith creates a rage in all of us wether it be + or - fantasy wise et all. I think we all agree he's a monster talent and a great leader in the locker room..........more now then before. LOL

I have to laugh when the experts put Smith at #1 WR in the June FFL draft issues. He put up top numbers once in the last six years and routinely finishes outside of Top 5 at season's end (traditional scoring, no PPR) either due to injury (his own or Delhomme) or lack of other options in Carolina offense. Marshall was a stud for me last year, a late round sleeper while Colston struggled with Brees and Co. early on. I would go Marshall, Colston, Smith but its thisclose for the top two. Marshall has more upside potential.

Colston first for sure. But only because I actually drafted him his rookie year (granted in a very deep league), but that's probably my best move ever in fantasy football so I'll always be a Colston backer.
Marshall's injury situation scares me a little bit, plus I think Carolina will try to find new ways to get the ball to Smith after last season so I'd go Smith 2.

Wow. Tough one. All are number ones and manage to be good but not make any noise. Marshall is nowhere near on the level of Smith or Colston, so, Marshall is last in line. Smith is a veteran guy who can outrun a cheetah, but Colston could jump up and hang onto the rafters of the Superdome if he wanted to. Brees, proven money at quarter, gives Marques something to catch easily, plus the lack of any other talent at wideout, a good Oline, and a weak running game, Colston dominates. Steve Smith has the experience, though, plus that lack of a skilled partner at wideout that Colston shares. The running game is also not as deep as it used to be, without Foster backing up Dea Will. The Oline is average, so the already average play of Delhomme would be hindered. Not to mention the fragile quarterbacks of Carolina.
Colston wins, Smith comes second, Marshall is considered even after you're done considering the Eagles wideouts.

Colston is a beast. I haven't (yet) seen the breakaway speed needed to create seperation between himself and the defender after the catch (from the little ive seen of him). But that is exactly my point. His ability to shield defenders and hold on to passes on routes that few tend to travel is amazing. What good is speed if your running without the ball? DB, probably.
1. Colston
2. Smith (Has speed AND hands???)
3. Marshall (Sophmore..nuff said)
