Michael Turner vs. Jamal Lewis

Another great job with the Grant vs. Barber debate. With some precincts still hanging, Grant holds a one vote lead. Let's stick with running backs, moving into the RB2 territory.

Fantasy owners have been waiting for Michael Turner to become a primary back for years; then he got stuck in Atlanta. He's good, but he's never topped 100 carries before and he's going to have to carry a bad offense. Lewis turned around a severe decline last year, and he certainly plays on a great offense. But the schedule gets harder this year and he will be ranked higher than any back with more than 2,000 career carries except LT2. So let me know your pick: Do you hope for one more good year from Lewis or chase the upside of Turner?

I don't trust the browns to win as many games this year, but there offense is going to be just as good if not better. I'm not saying lewis is better, but he's going to have way more opportunities to score than turner will. Turner has never played behind a terrible line, and he's never really played except in garbage time. Turner cashed in way more than he should have. Lewis will be the better fantasy back

My gut feeling is I like Turner over Jamal...but I gotta be honest, I don't foresee Turner lasting in any drafts long enough for me to take him. I think there will be at least 1 person in each league that is in love with him that'll reach and take him way too high.

But now that I think about it, I think I'd have to take Jamal over Turner. Nothing is going well in Atlanta...they are not going to turn into a good running team anytime soon.

That said, I'm going to be down on Jamal compared to a lot of backs...I think we've seen a best-case scenario in 2007 and I'd rather someone else with some upside.

I just don't see either of these guys on my fantasy roster unless some drafts go really weird.

I think Lewis will have the better season. He will be running behind a top 5 offensive line and has more experience being a #1 rb. I think Turner will be better down the road, after he has a season or two under his belt as the #1 rb in Atlanta who is going through a rebuilding process.

I think it's less about who's a better athlete and who's team has the ability to open up the running game. And, in that aspect, you have to give it to Jamal Lewis. I really like Michael Turner, but I don't believe Atlanta will develop enough of a passive game (if any) to get him some running space.

Lewis by a lot. Turner is all hype and potential right now. I like him, but he's gotten a lot of buildup behind LT and now has to show something on a bad team. Lewis has one or two good years left at the high end #2 level, but since so many people are down on him as a result of his last couple of years with Baltimore, you can probably get him a lot later than you should. Best of all, he's one of maybe 10 RBs who are solid bets to see at least 300 carries, he plays behind a good line, and Cleveland weather dictates a run-heavy offense after Halloween. Good value pick in round 3 or 4.

Lewis and the Browns may be facing a tougher schedule this year, but there are just too many ?s surrounding Turner. He has never carried the full load at RB before, he may be playing with a rookie QB and will be playing with a suspect O-line. Lewis is not the only threat in Cleveland's Offense and if Anderson flounders, Quinn should step in.

Turner may have more upside, but that could take 2-3 seasons to materialize as the Falcons rebuild.

I'll take Lewis for now.

Looks like Jamal in a landslide so far, and I agree. I've been a fan of his ever since he was a monster at the University of Tennessee, although not his biggest fan in a fantasy sense.
He's had a few down years, but it looks like the change of scenery in Cleveland has done him good. One more year of better than average production from Lewis is easy to see, especially if the Anderson to Edwards hook up is even half of what it was in '07.

Burner Turner? I agree with the "all hype" line of thinking for now. ATL was not the best landing spot for him, so I'll take a wait-and-see approach, especially if it's gonna take a 3rd round pick or better to get him. Rather have a receiver like Boldin.

Jamal this year for sure.
