Is Andre Johnson an injury risk?

I didn't think Andre Johnson's knee was a huge factor when I ranked him quite high in my initial receiver rankings, coming to a newsstand near you in three weeks. He missed seven games last year, but only missed three in his four year career before that. Furthermore, he had never required surgery before to our knowledge. Until now.

Perhaps I'm a bit biased as an AJ believer, but I don't see this as a major concern if the Texans are telling the truth. During the season, players return from this surgery in two weeks. In the offseason, Johnson will sit out a month. It's possible the Texans are fudging the severity of the surgery, but I doubt it considering they gave out a timeline for his return and he was at practice Monday.

Johnson now looks like a bigger injury risk than the rest of the true WR1s, save perhaps Brandon Marshall and Marques Colston. I will watch his progress closely, but this news alone won't change my projection dramatically, if at all. If Johnson is slow to recover in August, then we have a problem.

Have him in my keeper league with a July 31st deadline for keepers.

For now I'm holding on to him. Hopefully we know more by the end of July.

Not enough info in that article to judge. If it was just a scope, then it shouldn't be an issue. Unless something more comes out, I'd stay with your previous assessment.

Last year was he only significant time lossed, but i wouldn't consider that an injury risk...if the same happens this year, i will consider him one next year.AJ would be one of my top five WR this year with him healthy and Shaub healthy i expect big numbers. If anybody was clicking last season is was those two.

Anytime you have a knee issue at the WR position it should always make you take notice. Not to mention its the same knee as last season. However, Gunterboy said it best "If anybody was clicking last season it was those two." I see a big year on the Horizon for the Schaub-Johnson tandem. Assuming of course the line doesnt get Matt killed and AJ plays injury free. Nonetheless, I still would hold onto AJ as a keeper and wait out the process. Of course the depth on your roster should allow you to make a call prior to your deadline.

Here is my take: EVERY player is an injury risk.

In today's NFL, with the size of contracts and impending Free Agency lingering for every player at some point, today's player is more likely to take adavantage of ANY little injury and be convervative enough to maximize his down time in favor of his health.

Given that, personally, I very rarely rate any player as a bigger injury risk than any other.

I wouldn't consider Johnson's history thick enough to Red Flag him with caution.

No significant risk, he's young and a stud. He's not "top 5", he's #3 behind Moss and TO. Please, keep downplaying him so the uninformed will let him fall to me in the draft.
