Braylon Edwards vs. Andre Johnson

If it seems like I'm leaning on you guys more than ever while preparing this magazine, well, it's because I believe in the wisdom of the Pancake Blocks crowd. I love getting informed opinion to consider when making tough choices. It doesn't mean I go along with it all of course, but I do value it highly.

One of the toughest decisions I'm wrestling with currently is near the top of my receiver rankings. I won't say exactly where, but the battle is between Braylon Edwards and Andre Johnson. My gut says one thing, my numbers say another. They are both true game-breakers who have put themselves firmly among the receiver elite. But if you're on the clock today, who are you taking?

last year i drafted johnson a round ahead of my buddy who took edwards and i thought i was getting a better deal. the only reason not to take edwards ahead of jonhson is if something happens to anderson or jamal lewis. It's not like johnson has a proven QB and if you look at his second half nubers he wears down. edwards put up huge nubers and built a rapport with his QB johnson missed most of the season and has less of chance of putting up big TD numbers.

PPR- Johnson
TD heavy leagues- Edwards
2008- Johnson
dynasty- pick 'em. Both are top five dynasty receivers.

Expect Edwards' numbers to decline some this year; At least in the TD category. The browns' schedule is far tougher than all the last place teams they played in 2007, so expect some drop off in numbers. Also, its possible to consider that tha starting QB play will also have a difficult tiem duplicating last year's numbers.

Johnson was hurt much of last season. When healthy, he's clearly a prime go to guy. You have to expect his numbers to go back up in 2008.

Close call, both very good young WRS. I think I would lean a bit toward Schaub/Johnson in 2008.

AJ -> I don't trust Derek Anderson or Quinn.... I think he had all off-season to get healthy and will be a force... I would rank him in the top 5 receivers this year....

Firstly, I like both receivers to have good years in 08 even though both guys have had injury issues in the past...I think Braylon will go a little higher based on last years stats, as always seems to be the case in fantasy...if that holds true, and I value both players fairly equal, I'd rather take the guy that might slip to me one round later, possibly Johnson.

andre johnson slightly over braylon edwards

reason: stallworth and winslow will take touchs away from edwards plus jamal is revived and will also get touchs

aj has no such threats to touchs

I think I'm with you on this one Gregg. If I'm projecting totals, I probably put Edwards ahead of Johnson, but my gut tells me different. If I were choosing between the two in a draft, I would probably still take Edwards but it would be a very close call. I still believe Andre Johnson is destined to be the next great receiver in the NFL and I think this may be the year he overtakes all of these guys and emerges #1. But the continuity in Cleveland looks pretty strong. Plus the AFC Central isn't exactly teeming with strong secondaries.

As far as the argument that Edwards has the advantage in quarterbacking, I think that is debatable. Anderson is still somewhat of an unknown and Brady Quinn has shown nothing so far. Schaub was excellent when he was on the field and Rosenfels, while mistake prone, can sling it with the best of them. He may be every bit as good as Derek Anderson.

Do I sound conflicted? LOL
