Braylon Edwards vs. Andre Johnson

If it seems like I'm leaning on you guys more than ever while preparing this magazine, well, it's because I believe in the wisdom of the Pancake Blocks crowd. I love getting informed opinion to consider when making tough choices. It doesn't mean I go along with it all of course, but I do value it highly.

One of the toughest decisions I'm wrestling with currently is near the top of my receiver rankings. I won't say exactly where, but the battle is between Braylon Edwards and Andre Johnson. My gut says one thing, my numbers say another. They are both true game-breakers who have put themselves firmly among the receiver elite. But if you're on the clock today, who are you taking?

I like Edwards better. I don't really have a solid reason why but if I was drafting, I'd take Edwards over Johnson.

Edwards, without question.
-He has been healthy (AJ has struggled in this regard to say the least.
-shown enormous red zone potential
-shown ability to make very difficult catches and absorb massive hits
-has a more effective offensive line
-many more weapons in his offence to limit double teams(Winslow, Stallworth, JJ)
-finally don't forget that should Anderson become injured or falter then Brady Quinn (considered in many circles to be a far superior QB to DA) will be ready to step in. Schaub has been decent when healthy and Sage looked good last year but his upside is limited.

AJ. I think that Anderson is a one-year wonder.

For me it boils down to the QB and I don't think Anderson is for real.

You're right Greg, this is a toughie, but I take Andre Johnson in this case. Why? Two simple reasons: First, I don't fully believe in Anderson in Cleveland. His stats fell off toward the end as defenses got smarter about how to play Cleveland. I think he'll still be a #1 WR, but not in the dominant way he did. Secondly, AJ would have put up better #'s anyway if both he and Schaub had a full season w/out injuries. I see them as even, but think AJ has the higher upside.

I like Edwards slightly more for a few reasons.

1. winslow and stallworth should help him avoid double teams
2. d. anderson is back
3. great at jump balls in the end zone
4. less of an injury risk
5. schedule - texans are in the toughest division in football

Braylon Edwards because I trust Anderson more the Schaub. And, because Andre screwed me in FF last year, and Edwards was my saving grace :)
