Tough to Rank: Vince Young

The last two players in our Tough to Rank series were Javon Walker and Derek Anderson. Didn't get too many specific numbers for Anderson, although I got the diverging opinion (Top-five to outside the top-ten) that I'd expect. People don't seem too worried about Brady Quinn.
Walker got a shockingly low average of WR 40.5, showing the Pancake Blocks reader's infinite wisdom. He'll get drafted in the top-25, but Rotoworld has him pegged much closer to his Tough to Rank score. Today, we'll look at Vince Young.
Young was a top-five fantasy quarterback when he started as a rookie, placing him on a fantasy magazine cover or two. He fell well short of expectations, largely because he didn't run nearly as much. His passing skills appeared to improve in the second half of the year, but not enough to raise him above mediocre QB2 level.
So how do we view VY entering year three? A bounceback candidate, a possible QB1, an average QB2, or someone to avoid? Remember to put a position rank in the comments!

Anderson tied for 4th in my league scoring with Brees last year. Not worried about Quinn, I'd take Anderson as the 4th QB. Young was 25th in our scoring last year. There's a few guys I'd move him ahead of for this year I'd put him at 20. Any potential upside to a QB for rushing yardage is offset by the increased injury risk I think.

I think there are so many decent Qb's right now that Young is pretty low. You've got Brady, Manning, Anderson, Romo, Brees, Palmer, Bulger, Roethlisberger, McNabb, Hasselbeck, Delhome, Manning, Cutler, Garrard, Schaub, Kitna/Stanton (whoever starts and you should be able to get stanton really late if you have kitna), and Rodgers ahead of Young in my mind (in no particular order). That puts Young at like 18th at best...then you've still got some others that I rank almost even with him like Rivers, Garcia, Leinart, and maybe Jason Campbell

I guess I should explain why I think he is so low...He more than likely won't get the rushing TD's close he did as a rookie as they give those to LenDale now and they haven't gotten much better at the WR spot. I think LenDale continues his improvement so this team becomes more of a running team, especially with Young and his WR's making the mistakes they do. The Titan's defense is pretty good. The best chance this team has to win a bunch of games is a successful rushing attack.

id put him at QB no. 16, right in between the Eli Mannings, Matt Leinarts, and Phillip Rivers of the world. All four arent going anywhere from QB2 status. All of them have too many excuses for their potential: Eli's inconsistency, Leinart's commitment, River's accuracy and maturity. I think VY's the better of the four but I'm not banking on him turning the corner. I'd rather take a wait and see approach and draft him in 2009 - Dynasty rank not included.

... and i agree with the comment above. way too many drops and bad routes by his receivers last year to have the potential realized. needs to upgrade there before anything can improve with VY. ... and, if he really does remind yall of Vick, than isnt it ironic that Crumplers joining the fray... to be the security blanket, no doubt?

Around 12-14 range

Clarification. Those rankings exclude Favre. If he quits crying and goes back to G.B. then everybody besides Romo, Brady, Peyton slides down one notch.
