Tough to Rank: Vince Young

The last two players in our Tough to Rank series were Javon Walker and Derek Anderson. Didn't get too many specific numbers for Anderson, although I got the diverging opinion (Top-five to outside the top-ten) that I'd expect. People don't seem too worried about Brady Quinn.
Walker got a shockingly low average of WR 40.5, showing the Pancake Blocks reader's infinite wisdom. He'll get drafted in the top-25, but Rotoworld has him pegged much closer to his Tough to Rank score. Today, we'll look at Vince Young.
Young was a top-five fantasy quarterback when he started as a rookie, placing him on a fantasy magazine cover or two. He fell well short of expectations, largely because he didn't run nearly as much. His passing skills appeared to improve in the second half of the year, but not enough to raise him above mediocre QB2 level.
So how do we view VY entering year three? A bounceback candidate, a possible QB1, an average QB2, or someone to avoid? Remember to put a position rank in the comments!

I think he would be a QB2 with huge upside. I would love to get him on my team if I had a solid QB1. Maybe rank him around 15th.

I like Young as a high-end QB2 with QB1 potential. As far as ranking... I can't decide between 13th and 14th QB overall, so put me down for 13.5...
I think Young bounces back and puts up good numbers in 2008. I'd rather have him than guys like Rivers (injury) and Leinart (Warner), and I'd put him on the same level as Schaub and Garrard.
Young hasn't been a big injury risk either... so, he could be a good backup plan for an injury- or job-challenged QB like Bulger, Anderson, or McNabb.

Solid QB2, nothing more. Has upside potential down the road depending on what kind of WR's they bring in but he plays in an offense that isnt going to put up massive QB fantasy point right now.
If it was a keeper league I would take him as he might be set to break out next year, especially if they draft a solid WR1 type player this year.

And that would put him at about QB #14 or so

I'd put him as a basement QB1. The type of guy where you'd wait until the later rounds and grab two QB's pretty close. I'll say 12th overall. It's just so hard to pass up rushing QBs in 4pt passing TD leagues.

Not the QB I would want to count on every week. Solid #2 with loads of potential. Reminds me of Vick (who I had and drove me nuts)... gonna boom 1 week, bust the next and you never know which you will get. I rank him about QB 14.

I think VY's ceiling is the same as McNair's was in this system. Of course, McNair won an MVP, but it took several years to get him to that point. Young won't get to that level for two or three seasons. I do think that they will turn Young loose and let him run more this year. I like him for the 13th QB taken in a twelve team league.
