Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 15
Pick 15 belongs to Adam P. picking for the Lions all the way down in the middle of the first round for a change. Let's hope he does better than Matt Millen
With Derrick Harvey off the board, the lions do not get the defensive presence they were hoping for. However, the lions get to fill another important need, just not on the defensive side of the ball.
The Lions select Rashard Mendenhall with the fifteenth pick of the draft. Detroit really needs a defensive end impact player but the drop-off of talent after Harvey is too big. Because of this, the logical choice is to draft an all-around star running back who is a big improvement over Tatum Bell and injury-prone Brian Calhoun. Mendenhall brings the element of power the Lions offense would be missing if they do not draft him and at the same time brings so much more to the game as well like catching the ball, inside and outside running ability and a workhorse mentality.
New offensive co-ordinator Jim Colletto has said that the team would prefer a runningback over an offensive linemen in this draft. The new, more balanced offense asks less of its offensive line and it may not be as strong of a need as some make it out to be. Therefore, picking an exciting back like Mendenhall seems like the logical choice as he and the tremendously talented receiving duo of Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson could compliment each other quite nicely. Getting a capable runningback will also make it much easier for the Lions to work young quarterback Drew Stanton into the game without the pressure some young quarterbacks face with a sub-par running game. Now if only Millen can think this way.....we might have quite the offense here!

Comments
Why in the HELL would the Chiefs draft Darren McFadden? They have Larry Johnson, and Kolby Smith to back him up. If anything you should have them taking Sedrick Ellis, Ryan Clady, or Leodis McKelvin.

good pick for the Lions, hopefully it turns out better then the last drafted RBs they've had.
Also, Jake B. you might want to ask that question about the Chiefs draft on the 5th pick thread, not the 15th pick thread.

Jim Colleto never said he would prefer a running back over tackle. Give me the proof.

this mock draft is about who they SHOULD draft, not who they WILL draft.
the lions SHOULD stay away from taking any more talent positions in the top round, but there's a good chance they WILL take an rb.
there are far too many other holes on this team. and if the lions were interested in more than just selling tickets, they would never take an rb here.
