Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 9
Jacob C. has the honors for the next pick.
With the 9th pick in the 2008 NFL draft, the Cincinnati Bengals should select: OT Ryan Clady from Boise St.
Many agree that the biggest need for the Cincinnati Bengals is on the defensive side of the ball.
Specifically,a run stopping DT. With Glenn Dorsey and Sedrick Ellis off the board, the remaining top defensive player that the Bengals would likely consider is OLB Keith Rivers from USC. However, the Bengals have a bevy of linebackers and may find some answers on defense with the possible return of David Pollack and Odell Thurman.
What Bengals owner Mike Brown really cares most about is putting butts in seats and lining his own pockets (no GM and having the leagues smallest scouting dept are examples of his lack of commitment). As we all know, having a high powered offense will do that. As a result, protecting Carson Palmer is of utmost importance. Willie Anderson is in the twilight his career and Levi Jones has battled injuries of late.
The addition of Ryan Clady will help offset concerns about the fading strength at the tackle position, and help solidify the offensive line.

I disagree with this pick based on two factors: 1) this is a deep tackle draft and its likely that Cincy could get one in round 2; and 2) they have stashed young players who should be able to take over should Anderson retire or Levi Jones not recover, like Stacy Andrews (franchised) and Andrew Whitworth (drafted as an OT).
While I agree with you regarding the nature of Mike Brown, Marvin needs to make his defense work or else, because they need to win to keep butts in the seats, and they don't have the pieces necessary at the moment. Thurman might be back, maybe... Pollack is kidding himself... and they lost Justin Smith.
My guess: if the draft falls like this, Derrick Harvey DE FLA

I don't know Cincy's roster well enough to say on the pick but good luck playing the NFC East and AFC South this year. At least you don't get Pats and Chargers as other conference games like Pitt does this year.

not a chance drafting O-lineman 1st...if Marvin wants to keep his job he will select Rivers if the 2 DL-man are off the board. He needs D D and more D...

I hope the Bengals make this pick. Number one because their running game needs a swift kick in the behind and number two because it gives the Saints more options to bolster their defense with the next selection. Rivers or Cromartie?????

No way the Bengals use this pick for offense. This pick is DT all the way.

OL in 1ST? Not this year. Whitworth will start @ LGuard, with Willie and Levi returning to Pro Bowl tackle form. Draft is deep at tackle, Bengals will take Rivers or Harvey--DL is biggest need after losing J Smith. Offense can wait, they have 10 pix this year.
