Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 30
I had the Packers pick in our video mock and took Antoine Cason after considering Kentwan Balmer. Then I realized Balmer did very little in college and the Packers need a corner more. Kirby H. goes in another direction
The Packers in my opinion need help on the OL, QB, CB and possibly RB, depending if the staff is sold on Grant and Jackson (I’m not). TE is also a concern but Donald Lee seems to be at least adequate as a starter. OL the guards drafted the last couple of years have been ok and allowed to much rush up the middle against strong pass rushes. Corners are very good but old, and the Harris-Buress matchup may have been a disaster but I think it was one guy having a great day more than a sign Harris is done.
At RB, Grant seems to be an all or nothing back not capable of the hard yards and converting 3rd and short. Ultimately, though QB is the most important position on the team and Rogers is neither proven to be good or durable. While he looked good against Dallas, backups can surprise teams in their first appearance. Week two is typically where you see the drop off. I would have liked Brohm, but the Packers will take Henne, a four year starter that completed 60% of his passes.

Comments
How did this guy get chosen to pick for the Packers? Henne? Seriously? They might as well draft John Stocco too.
In all seriousness, the Pack need depth a corner or a TE here. While they certainly need depth at QB, they can address that need later in the draft of through free agency.

RB: They're not drafting an RB. Not with Grant, Jackson, and Wynn on the roster, all entering their second year.
QB: No way, not in the first round. They LOVE Rogers in Green Bay and they'll pick up a crafty vet when the Bucs drop one, not draft one early.
TE: With Franks gone, they may go for a blocking specialist. Lee made Franks expendable.
OL/CB: Round One and them some.

Scott C, just one time posting the rude flame would have been sufficient. I disagree with being afraid to damage a young guy psychologically by drafting another player at their position. If their psyche is that weak then they won't make it anyway. A winner enjoys the competition and it makes them better. Why not give Rogers a chance to step up or if not you've got Henne with a year under his belt ready for '09 rather than a rookie.

Bottom line, bad pick.
Thankfully for Packer fans, there is no way that's gonna happen.

This is now the point where we say "Pats pick forfeited for violating league rules". Giants, whatcha' doin? Inquiring NFC East minds want to know....

No way Ted Thompson would draft a qb in the first round when we the Pack is in "win now" mode. We drafted Rodgers after appearing in the playoffs despite having a guy who had actually played games with out getting hurt and was a three time MVP.
Finding another great qb should be the priority of the team that is otherwise in win now mode. No one would think Henne would signify a benching of Rodgers, at least not this year. if you wait until next year to draft a guy, you are waiting to 2010 to have a chance, bad idea.
