Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 30
I had the Packers pick in our video mock and took Antoine Cason after considering Kentwan Balmer. Then I realized Balmer did very little in college and the Packers need a corner more. Kirby H. goes in another direction
The Packers in my opinion need help on the OL, QB, CB and possibly RB, depending if the staff is sold on Grant and Jackson (I’m not). TE is also a concern but Donald Lee seems to be at least adequate as a starter. OL the guards drafted the last couple of years have been ok and allowed to much rush up the middle against strong pass rushes. Corners are very good but old, and the Harris-Buress matchup may have been a disaster but I think it was one guy having a great day more than a sign Harris is done.
At RB, Grant seems to be an all or nothing back not capable of the hard yards and converting 3rd and short. Ultimately, though QB is the most important position on the team and Rogers is neither proven to be good or durable. While he looked good against Dallas, backups can surprise teams in their first appearance. Week two is typically where you see the drop off. I would have liked Brohm, but the Packers will take Henne, a four year starter that completed 60% of his passes.

I have a hard time seeing the Pack use a first round pick on a QB during Aaron Roger's first year as starter.
It would send a signal that they doubt Rogers, and potentially ruin the young guy's confidence. From a psychological standpoint, this pick could really hurt his development and set the team back.
Bad call.

If Rodgers chokes next year, mark the Pack down for a possible 1st round QB in 09... But, not this year.

this is horrible.. these picks are assinign. first of all grant is a feature back, so accept it. and second of all it takes atleast 2 years to learn the west coast offense and the packers are in a win now mode. how is henne going to help at any level over the next couple of years??!! this is just a waste of a 1st round pick. they did the right thing when they signed rogers to eventually take over for favre. now there doing that again?? what a retard

I dont agree with the pick. I dont doubt that GB will take another QB in the draft, but it wont be in the first round.
They picked up Gus so that they have someone to go on if Rodgers struggles or gets injured (similar to KC QB situation last year). A young QB would be nothing more than a 3rd option (or 4th if Favre comes back due to Gus and Aaron being injured :P)
Besides Im not totally convinced they wouldnt be able to get Henne in round 2.
