Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 3

The picture sorta gives away this pick. It's written by Troy Hill from endzoneview.
Arthur Blank and the Falcons have a long road ahead of them. Not only do they need to rebuild their team after the unfortunate debacle of Michael Vick, they need to rebuild the relationship with the fans and season ticket holders. They made a great start by addressing the running back situation in free agency landing the highly coveted Michael Turner. It would be wise to continue to change the face of the organization and there’s no better position to do so than at quarterback.
While new head coach Mike Smith would probably prefer to spend the first round pick on a safer defensive option, owner Arthur Blank needs a bankable star, and one that will hopefully make the city of Atlanta forget the star that fell. With the 3rd selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons will select QB Matt Ryan of Boston College.
2008 Pancake Blocks Mock Draft
1. Miami Dolphins (Scott L.) - Chris Long
2. St. Louis Rams (Evan Silva) - Glenn Dorsey
3. Atlanta Falcons (Troy Hill) - Matt Ryan

This pick makes perfect sense for the Falcons. Hopefully the Falcons make this choice, and it helps Falcon fans not only forget about the Vick debacle but also forget about the parting of the talented Matt Schaub.

The Chiefs would be so happy if this is the way the draft played out. They could finally get LJ some O-line help and get the best one in the draft with Jake Long.

By the way, nice blog

Despite the worthiness of the blog, Ryan isn't even the best QB in this draft, much less worthy of the #3 overall pick. This will probably happen in reality though and lead to another decade of Falcons suckitude. Meanwhile Brohm will get lucky and be drafted somewhere that he can have a good career.

I'm with b roo... Ryan might not be the best QB and the worst thing a franchise can do (particularly with a rookie coach) is reach for the early QB when there is not enough talent on the offense to help him succeed.
Jake Long would be a better choice should he fall b/c their only offensive lineman of note is Justin Blaylock. Ellis would do also. Then grab Henne, Flacco or, if they get lucky, Brohm in the second.

Good point Tim. By taking Ryan not only do they rid themselves of Vick but also the ill timed Schaub trade.
I fully agree that if I were the Falcons I would not take Ryan at 3, but the selection was made on what they will do and not what they should do.
I don't think the Falcons could go wrong with Jake Long or Glenn Dorsey. Those picks make football sense, but Ryan makes PR sense.
