Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 25

Draft week is finally here. This draft has the most intriguein the top ten since the 2004 Eli/Rivers draft, so it should be a fun buildup. We're on the home stretch of our Mock with John W. picking for Seattle

There are three positions the Seahawks lack depth and strength in. Everyone would point to RB with the decline of Shaun Alexander and they are right. But with Mendenhall and Stewart not falling, they can wait to maybe find a diamond in the rough.

First, with the departure of D.J. Hackett Mike Holmgren will need somebody to step up in the passing game to fill the void of this productive (when he was on the field healthy) WR. I don’t see any superstar WR’s in this draft class worthy of a 1st round selection except for Limas Sweed. Seattle could look for a great pass catching TE.

Second, Seattle used to bolster a near-dominant offensive line anchored by Steve Hutchinson and Walter Jones. Hutch leaves for the Vikings, a player they never really replaced, and Jones is getting older every year with surgically repaired shoulders. But blue chip Branden Albert is now off the board and Sam Baker does not warrant a first round selection.

So do I pick a TE, offensive lineman, or WR? USC’s Fred Davis seems like the most dynamic receiving TE but his recent knee injury is a question mark. Notre Dame’s John Carlson was average at the combine and ran a 4.67 40 (Davis 4.7). One of these guys they could take with their second pick.

Thus, the Seattle Seahawks select Limas Sweed WR, Texas. He has tremendous size, runs precise routes, and is a playmaker with game-breaking ability. I think Holmgren could really utilize his talents, and throw him right into his offense. With another competent wide receiver, Seattle could go four wide every passing down! Mike Holmgren’s dream is realized!
