Pancake Blocks Mock Draft: Pick No. 18
Jimmy has the honors with the Texans
I was really hoping to have Williams or even Albert available here to improve the O-line. The Texans still may take a left-tackle here. I do not think the Texans will take a RB in the first round as there are more pressing needs on the defensive side of the ball. We need to improve our pass defense by either applying more pressure on the QB or possibly covering receivers (just a thought).
I'm not so sure about Merling or Campbell here, but Campbell interests me a lot more than Merling. Campbell teamed with super Mario would give us two 6'7" 290 lb ends. He's got the size, but the questions about his strength and lackluster second half of the '07 season push me in favor of drafting a CB.
Cornerback is definitely an area of need. Dunta Robinson might be back halfway through this season, but this is also the last season of his contract. After Robinson we have last year's fourth rounder Fred Bennet and newly signed Jacques Reeves. This may or may not be the worst pair of starting corners in the league, I don't know. But I do know, it's an area we need to improve. So I go with Mike Jenkins. BrandonFlowers sounds like a good corner, but we need the speed. Jenkins will be able to contribute immediately on defense as well as improve our special teams.

Good call. Yet again another possible trade down with Dallas. Take a starting LB plus pick 28 for a DB.

Dallas would give up a starting linebacker and pick 28 to move to 18? Why? (and which linebacker?)
I suspect that whoever lands Mike Jenkins after the first half of the first round will be very happy. Much as Jonathan Stewart seems like a logical pick here, I think they'd be better off going for one of the top 5 lineman (Long, Clady, Williams, Otah, Albert) if any are available. Likewise, if Jenkins is on the board (or Rogers-Cromartie or McKelvin somehow slip down), then go for a CB. Not sure about Talib. I suspect the marijuana thing doesn't bother most NFL teams (isn't that why Warren Sapp slipped), but the Texans probably need someone more NFL ready so if it's between Stewart and Talib, maybe then I take the first franchise back they've had.

Dallas can give up either Ayodele or Bobby Carpenter. ILB is their long suit. I hope they move up for Stewart myself, cuz I think he will end up being the next Emmit in the right system, but who knows? Its all guesswork now.

I don't think Houston needs a LB that badly. Demeco is awesome, Morlon Greenwood is serviceable. We don't have a great strong side LB, but we just signed Chaun Thompson. If his real-life progression is anything like that in Madden '06 he should be great. This is pretty much how I base all of my decisions.
With Gibbs and Kubiak, I'm thinking they'll be more inclined to take a RB late, if at all.

this is a stupid pick.. i cant believe stewart didnt go here. yes true, there are many needs but the chance to land a franchise running back is too good to pass up. thats why they brought in reeves to provide depth to draft another position, although i still think they will pick jenkins or one of the other top 4 corners here. but like we said, this is a mock of what teams SHOULD do, and i definately think they should pick stewart, even though i pretty sure they wont.
